Packed lunch is sad

I went to a theme park with a friend recently, fully prepared to buy lunch when I was there however arrived to pick her up and there she was with a bag full of homemade sandwiches and packet of crips each Hmm I was grateful, of course, for the time effort and money on her part but I couldn't help feeling a little dissapointed - what's the harm in buying food out?

Its always been the case that I can't help but feel a little sad when I see families on a day out at a theme park, zoo for example, sat on a bench eating (warm?) sandwhcihes wrapped in foil with a fruit shoot.

I had the type of childhood where this was common place - packed lunch for every occasion, no need to eat out becaus there was 'food at home' or it was 'too expensive' (despite no money worries) etc so I suppose it's kind of stuck with me and I don't want that kind of life.

Aibu to think that if you can afford a day at the zoo etc, then spending a little bit extra on some food is no big deal? Aibu to think that life is too short to spend time making a sand which/salad to take on a day out, when really you can just spend a bit of extra money and have the hassle taken away? It just seems so strange to me and as though people try and suck all enjoyment out of life.

YABU, I take packed lunches to SAVE time so we have more time to enjoy said day out.

How is it time saving? I suppose if you eat in a ride queue but that's grim, I'd rather not eat.
Otherwise either way you're still stopping to eat, I've never queued for attraction food for longer than it's takes to find a picnic spot and unpack the picnic.
We don't stop enjoying our day because we're in a queue to buy a chicken wrap.
If anything not having to fanny round packing a cool bag means we get out the house quicker and at our destination earlier.

I've nothing against packed lunches but I despise people who deploy 'said' in the way you have notso. And shout with CAPITALS.

Number three on my hate list are people who start posts with: 'So...'

I was quoting a previous poster limitedperiodonly that's why it was in bold. I agree completely on all three points and would like add people who say 'wise people in my phone' or similar. It seems to have migrated here from Facebook and makes me cringe.

We take a packed lunch because I don’t like to be ripped off for junk food while at an attraction! Went to Disney in Florida, best theme park in the world, right? Food was bloody awful! At least if we bring some of our own wraps and snacks I know the kids will have eaten half decently then they’ll get an ice cream or something smaller from the ‘restaurant’ where we are. The only exception is National Trust places as they do often have some decent food.

Very sorry notso. I thought I was following the thread but obviously not closely enough. Thanks for being nice about it

@limitedperiodonly gosh 'despise' is a bit strong 🙈

I have young children and yes, finding a picnic spot and getting sandwiches out of a bag (I don't own a cool box 😂) would be quicker for us than queuing up for something in a fast food place and then looking for a table. If 'said' 😂 fast food place was busy it would just be stressful with little ones so I just prefer not to do it.

This may change as my children get older but at the moment this is much easier and quicker for us. I'd rather spend 30 minutes "fannying" around at home to help to keep things stress free when we are out enjoying our family day out.

@notso never ever heard the wise people in phone thing ... just incase you're assuming I say that!

My family PREFER it when I take a packed lunch on days out.
The food is always great, healthy and packed full of flavour and goodness.
It also means I can easily cater for everyone’s tastes and specifications and then we spend the extra money we would’ve saved in the gift shops on the way out.

The kids love taking home a toy or a teddy rather than forgetting about the half eaten stale park sandwiches and junk food they could’ve been treated too.
