I think my elderly neighbour's house is a health hazard?

I have asthma and appear to be allergic to a lot of things (not usually food - though fish).
I went today to help her clean and I opened a black bin bag to determine whether it was recycling or waste.
It was covered in a sort of orange fungus or bacteria or something which fluffed up into the air and which I probably inhaled. I'm struggling to breathe since.
I know that it is more likely paranoia right now than being infected already.
That aside. What help can I get her to clean her flat. It's like 3 rooms of waste and recycling. She has been unwell for 6 months and it looks like she hasn't been able to clean anything apart from a cup when she needs a cup of tea.

Is there a health hazard cleaning company or something?

Does she have any family?

I'd be thinking of raising it as a safeguarding concern with social services.

Oh and my lips are swollen.

Ok one thing at a time.
You have asthma and are struggling to breathe - yes? If so you need medical attention then the decision to phone 111 or 999 can only be made by you.

NewSchoolNewName · 21/06/2019 23:37

I’ve no idea about your neighbours house.

But.

Given that you’ve mentioned asthma and allergies - if you’re struggling to breathe and you have swollen lips, shouldn’t you be getting yourself checked over by a doctor? That sounds worrying.

Cherrysoup · 21/06/2019 23:37

Call Social Services.

  1. seek medical attention immediately
  2. you could raise a concern to social services but no clue if they’ll be interested
  3. don’t help her clean again, it was a lovely gesture but you can’t risk your health if the place is that bad

Swollen lips from inhaling spores when you already have asthma and allergy issues is something you should get seen to asap OP.

Once you've taken care of yourself then you should call social services to help your neighbour.

Anarchyshake · 22/06/2019 00:34

You need to be seen.

If you’re struggling to breathe you really need to seek medical attention.

Once you have been checked out, it might be worth contacting your local authority and expressing your concerns about your neighbor.

So I spoke to 111 and they told me to take an antihistamine which I have here so I'll be fine.
I don't think they got what I opened though!
