Aibu to want to get a iPhone for DD instead of a Samsung?

I’m getting DD her first phone. She’ll be starting secondary school in Sept and has been using a really old spare phone for the last few months (taking it to her after school activities)

DD saw a Samsung phone and fell in love with it. It’s strange - the phone just had a dummy screen iykwim. I don’t understand what she liked so much without even turning it on! DH and I both have iPhones. It makes so much sense to get one for her. Plenty of chargers around the house, syncing calendars, FaceTime - there are so many advantages. If I push, she’ll just say yes to what we say, but I really want her to be happy with the phone.

What to do?

My young adult DC and their friends all have android phones.

They think iPhones are for oldies because the technology is so clunky and dated compared to Androids.

I much prefer my Samsung to my previous iPhones! And I like not being restricted by Apple too (although with streaming being the way things are done now I don't think it's as bad as when I used to use iTunes).
I love the widgets that some apps come with and how customisable the who user experience is.

Yes so you couldn't face time- but you video call via WhatsApp if you feel the need. I'm pretty sure you can sync using other calendar apps too.

If she's getting a new phone, I'd let her have a say. (I'd actually be giving her mine when I upgraded or something though)

Do you not have any old out of contract ones you can had down?

Samsung Android phones have a huge advantag - for £130 you can get a good functional entry level phone brand new. I don't belive iPhones are any safer or more secure particularly given the level of data you have to hand over to Apple. Each to their own.

She's the one who has to use it. Get her what she prefers.
