Possible Chicken Pox and Premature Baby

Hi everyone, just looking for some advice
My 9 month old has come out in a rash this evening that looks like it could be Chicken Pox. She's absolutely fine in herself other than that. I also have a premature baby currently in the hospital, born at 33 + 2 and now 8 days old. I've rung the hospital twice but can't get through so I'm just wondering if there's any medical professionals on here or anything that can tell me if I'll still be allowed to go and see my baby? I don't want to just turn up at the hospital and put any of the babies at risk.
Thank you xx

As far as I know as long as you’ve had it then you can’t carry it (that’s what my go told me anyway) but I would def speak to the ward before you go in.
Big hugs to you and your babies.

I’m guess highly unlikely, but hopefully someone with a definite answer will come along soon! Congratulations on your baby!❤️

Sorry that should of said My Gp not my go! Stupid phone!

Not a medical professional but I believe it’s hard to pass via another person. If you wash your hands you will probably be fine. However I would double check with the hospital.

When I had shingles I was told I couldn't pass it to anyone else unless I touched them with the liquid that had come out of the blistered rash.

I would assume that as long as you are careful about hand washing and maybe changing clothes it would be ok but definitely check with the hospital first

I think we need to keep in mind that OP thinks it may be chicken pox, but she’s not sure- so this may affect the answer to going into NICU.

HippyChickMama · 21/06/2019 18:47

Chicken pox is spread by direct contact or airborne by the fluid in the blisters, coughs and sneezes etc. If you've had chicken pox yourself the chances are you're immune anyway but as long as you wash your hands after contact it should be fine

Thank you so much everyone. I've just got through to the hospital and they've told me to bring my daughter with me when I come in to drop off my expressed milk, that way they'll be able to tell us there and then if we can go and see baby. I hope it's just a rash, my daughter has had a cold so she hasn't even seen her new brother yet :(
