To buy Egyptian Cotton bedding

So, finally decorating our bedroom in our forever home. Thinking it’s time we invested in some new bedding. I get really hot ans sweaty at night so need something that will keep me cool. I know it’s expensive, but should we buy Egyptian cotton sheets? What thread count is decent?

I wouldn't, what the cotton industry is doing to the ecosystem of Nile is beyond appalling, pesticides, chemicals, water derailing. Also, there is a heavy use of child and unpaid labour, so morally reprehensible.

Look into organic cotton or organic cotton/bamboo mix. 400 TC is usually a good one, comfy yet easy to dry. The environment will thank you.

DirtyDennis · 21/06/2019 17:13

Yes, do it.
I invested in some years ago and the difference it made to my sleep the first night I used it was ridiculous. I'd genuinely never slept so well in my whole life. I wasn't a bad sleeper before but I reckon I must have been waking up without realising it.

I just go for the highest thread count I can find.

My mum has panics about it needing ironing. It does come out of the machine creased by who the fuck's got time/energy/inclination to iron bedding?! The creases fall out once it's on the bed anyway.

DirtyDennis · 21/06/2019 17:13

Okay, so now I feel like a complete shit @DrVonPatak Grin

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 21/06/2019 17:18

I don't get Egyptian cotton I just get pure cotton with a high thread count (at least 300) in nice light colours and I sleep like a baby (when I'm not pregnant and suffering from PGP).

Bluerussian · 21/06/2019 17:18

Egyptian cotton is lovely. Go for it! It does need ironing but maybe you can send it to an ironing shop.

You can buy Egyptian cotton percale which needs little or no ironing.

Get the highest thread count you can.

notacooldad · 21/06/2019 17:19

Why would it be unreasonable if you bought it?Confused

BlueJava · 21/06/2019 17:20

We all have John Lewis Egyptian Cotton 1000 thread count bedding in white - love it! Feels amazing when you get in, especially when fresh of the line.

Mammylamb · 21/06/2019 17:35

Because it’s so expensive compared to other bedding

I would second the recommendation for bamboo. Very very soft and wicks away moisture.

freakydeaky · 21/06/2019 17:44

I had problems with overheating at night too. Egyptian cotton sheets were lovely but ours were 400 thread count and felt quite dense.
I took a chance on the M&S comfortably cool range, which are made of cotton and tencel (I think!)
They are absolutely fantastic, cool, smooth and so comfortable.
They wash well too. No more overheating for me!

Cloudtree · 21/06/2019 17:48

bamboo is known as the "the cooling fabric"

Hmmmbop · 21/06/2019 17:52

You wouldn't be unreasonable to get some lovely and expensive bedding (assuming you aren't going without necessities. You would be unreasonable to buy Egyptian cotton for all the reasons DrVonPatak said.

learieonthewildmoor · 21/06/2019 18:02

Buy bamboo sheets, they’re cheaper and are also good for over heating.
