Using a potty in a cafe!!

Very busy Starbucks. A couple arrive with a boy of around 3. The woman leaves and the next thing I see is the man with the boy on his lap. He is stripping him off and the boy is naked from the waist down. Okaaaaaaay. Don’t see that often. Must be a good reason.

Next thing is the guy is picking up a potty from the floor - boy sitting half naked on the chair. When I look again the man is on his hands and knees with handfuls of paper napkins mopping up an accident.

No one says anything. I didn’t say anything in case there was a scene in front of the little boy. The staff clearly didn’t see either. I go up to the counter and explain that the area needs mopping ASAP and why. People tut, but they wait until the couple leave before mopping!!

The couple are regulars and are the boys grandparents. Is using a potty in a cafe ‘a thing’ now? AIBU to speak to him about it next time I see him?

If a child can't hold it long enough to get to a toilet (with in reasonable distance) then they aren't ready yet.

I don't want to see anybody going to the toilet while I eat.

The sorts of people who think this is acceptable aren't terribly bright so why not do a nice bit of scaremongering about paedophiles? That'll stop them.

Rank.

Totally not on. Avoid cafes when you are potty training. It's not difficult. Hmm

Bouledeneige · 21/06/2019 09:57

I never took a potty out with me when potty training. We used the toilet. Not nice at all - lazy and inappropriate.

Disgusting! I'm sure Starbucks have toilets so bring the potty in there if needs be. Some parents just think they are so fucking entitled and that they can do as they please when and where they please. I'd have brought it to the staffs attention straight away so the entitled fuckers would know it was not acceptable.

That is disgusting

If it's not acceptable for an adult to go to the loo in the middle of a room, it's not acceptable for a child. Shit is shit. I don't understand why this is so hard for some people to grasp. It is repellant.

IsabellaLinton · 21/06/2019 10:03

There’s no need to even use a potty. They’re totally unnecessary. I didn’t want to be washing and cleaning that out! Mine went straight onto the toilet. If they can’t hold it for long enough to make it to a bathroom, they’re not ready.

Are you sure they were human? No chance that a pack of feral animals just turned up at Starbucks for a wee on the floor?

🤢

It's a Starbucks in a hotel chain where I use the gym and work in the cafe. The couple are always there, appear normal, ordinary people. There are open access toilets within a couple of steps - plus a baby change and disabled toilet.

The only sense I can make of it is 'useless Grandad' syndrome!
