Delicious! And don't get the respect that they deserve?

I love pickles but pickled eggs are not for me, maybe an acquired taste/texture. Now gherkins on the other handWink

Feebeela · 20/06/2019 21:52

Absolutely delicious! I make quick pickles from cucumber, carrot, cauliflower and radishes. Yum!

Sweetpea55 · 20/06/2019 21:54

Love pickled eggs done in brown vinegar
I had a passion for these while pregnant with DD. But they had to be in one of those grease proof paper bags that chips come in. It wasn't the same eating it off a plate

vampirethriller · 20/06/2019 21:54

I love them! On chips with lots of salt

waterlego · 20/06/2019 21:56

I love them, but they give me heartburn. I see a PP has the same experience.

Graphista · 20/06/2019 21:57

LOVE pickled anything but definitely eggs!

Ya bugger you've got me craving one now!

Also pickled garlic, peppers, gherkins, onions, mixed pickles, celery, red cabbage, beetroot, lemons, limes, ginger... mmmm sauerkraut...

TamzinGrey · 20/06/2019 22:00

DH introduced me to pickled eggs on one of our first dates. He pointed out that it was absolutely essential to partner them with a bag of salt and vinegar crisps. A perfect combo. This amazing foodie insight was probably one of the reasons why I married him.

lfoatw2 · 20/06/2019 22:01

I love pickled most things but always bee a bit unsure of eggs. They arent as nice as i want them to be.

But I'm genuinely scared of pickled walnuts. I love vinegar. I love walnuts. But firstly they dont even look like walnuts and secondly even if they are just unripe or small pnes, does that combination actually work?

ShinyMe · 20/06/2019 22:04

I've just had one. Yum. I made these before Christmas, so they're really strong now. SO melty and soft inside though. YUM.

I love pickled things but I've always been too scared to try a pickled egg. They're so... big.

This is exactly how I feel 😂
They just look awkward to eat. And I don't know if I could buy a whole jar of them. Can you get just one? I don't like the look of the ones in the big dirty jar in the chippy.

Sandybval · 20/06/2019 22:13

Wow most people recoil in horror, I'm so glad others appreciate them! Supermarket ones aren't that great in my opinion, homemade ones do the job; Purely Pickled Eggs are an amazing brand, or any at farm shops etc

Meh

Elphame · 20/06/2019 22:27

Ghastly things - I hated the commercial ones, made a batch myself and they were equally horrible. I gave them to a friend who loved them.

elephantoverthehill · 20/06/2019 22:31

Pickled egg and ready salted crisps and a pint of cider.

Sandybval · 20/06/2019 23:12

@ShinyMe that looks amazing! Haven't had one in a packet of crisps for ages, but definitely agree its nice with a cider.

I really want to eat one now!

Hawkmoth · 20/06/2019 23:18

Love pickled eggs. So do my two youngest. DH has no sense of smell which helps.

AwdBovril · 20/06/2019 23:34

I make a couple of big jars of pickled eggs for DH every winter, usually about 24 eggs or so. I think they are hideous things. I like most other pickles and fermented foods I've tried, including umeboshi plums, pickled limes, kefir, kimchi, miso, sauerkraut, and pickled fish. However I don't like like beer, & the eggs are definitely a step too far!

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 20/06/2019 23:41

Awww yes! Pickled egg in a cake case served with a little white packet of salt! Pub classic! I have always wanted to make my own, is it brown vinegar that makes them go brown or just white vinegar and the pickling process?

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/06/2019 23:43

There’s a massive jar of them on the bar in my local.

PlatypusPie · 20/06/2019 23:49

I’ve only ever had one, which was rubbery and not very nice - what should a good quality one taste like and what should the texture be, both white and yolk ?

Avonandice · 21/06/2019 00:02

My nana made the best pickled eggs and am yet to find anything to compare, she pickled onions as well and i used to suck the vinegar out and put them back in the jar.

Had pickled quail eggs served on a bed of wilted spinach garnished with gold leaf at a poncy gastro pub, they did twists on pub food menus, lasted about six months and went out of business. Probably in the middle of farming country was not the best idea.
