To ask you what to do in Blairgowrie and Ratray

Hello!
We are off to school and on holibobs in a few weeks. Never been before but are taking 10 days to meander up and back down. We are staying for a week near Blairgowrie. I've looked at loads of websites/tripadvisor but nothing beats a bit of local knowledge, so....hidden gems to suit a mummy (who desperately needs to relax), a DH and two DC under 5.

Lots of nice places to visit - Dunkeld is not too far, mine had a great time running around the cathedral as preschoolers. Aberfeldy is a bit further but has a lovely bookshop / cafe (the Watermill). Both Perth and Dundee swimming pools are great, and there’s lots in Dundee - the science centre is good, and there’s the V&A (haven’t been yet).

You’re about an hour from Blair Drummond safari park, but it’s a great day out with small children, worth the drive.

Um, there’s a nice chemist in Blairgowrie... I love a look in a holidays chemist, maybe just me though!

Dundee is full of stuff to do. Lovely City!

We often spend holidays in that area of Scotland using Blairgowrie as our base. There's loads to do (we also spend a lot of time with Family in the area) and we're never bored.

If you have transport and can get up to Carrbridge there is Landmark Forest Adventure Park it's amazing we were there last week kids loved it you can spend the whole day there and if you go on the itison website they may still have discount tickets available x

If you have a day free visit Dundee. We have a swimming pool (the Olympia), trampoline park (Ryze), Dundee science centre, camperdown country park and zoo, the v&a, McManus galleries, verdant works

A nice walk up Glen Clova maybe. A meal at The Drovers in Memus. There is a nice climbing wall in Dundee too. There will be pick your own berries around too I would expect... You could easily spend a nice day around Blair Athol/Dunkeld/Pitlochry.

I’m not sure about actually in Blairgowrie though. I’m glad to hear there is a nice chemist.

Scone Palace is also a good day out. We've already booked a few experiences there this summer and the Scottish Game Fair is a great day out.

There's also a play park in Perth the likes of Ive never experienced before. I love it and thankfully my grandchildren do as well.

If you have any Thomas fans in the family he'll be at the steam railway in Brechin on the 13 and 14th of July.

The Verdant works in Dundee is also worth a visit.

You can also do spooky walks in Dundee as part of a group.

I believe there's also going to be an Oor Wullie hunt just as there was a few years ago but this year it will cover Scotland and not just Dundee.

The v&a is fabulous, but not really for kids. Botanic attend in Dundee are nice for a walk ,- the butterflies are cool. If you're driving then a trip across the bridge, through st Andrews and form the East Neuk - crail, then anstruther for fish and chips, a visit to the secret bunker. Cairnie fruit farm and maze is great for kids.

Active kids near Stanley definitely although it gets crazy busy. Stewart Tower dairy farm near Stanley has great ice cream cafe and a few little animals to pet. Dunkeld is lovely and The Hermitage close by is a really nice walk. Olympia in Dundee great for the kids.

Loads of nice walks around the Blairgowrie area, even just along the river. Glamis castle is worth a visit. Kenmore and the loch Tay area in worth a visit, and just gorgeous on good day, as is Pitlochry perhaps.

Ooh and do fill up on the best strawberries and raspberries in the world that are grown all around the area.

I second Active Kids. If you like Ice Cream, try Stewart Towers Dairy which isn't too far either www.stewart-tower.co.uk

Near Aberfeldy is Highland Safari's- they have red deer which the kids can feed and also have a go and "gold and gem panning". There's also a play area and a nice cafe. www.highlandsafaris.net

If you or DH like outdoor activities/watersports there are a few places on the Tay to go.
Willowgate is on the outskirts of Perth www.willowgateactivitycentre.co.uk

I am going to repeat the recommendation for Auchingarrich wildlife park, it is great for children (and fabulous views for adults)

Active kids is good. My pre-schooler loved the crannog centre on loch Tay (me too). I prefer Perth to Dundee for swimming if you have really little ones, though Dundee has better flumes if they are old enough for that. Science centre in Dundee is good. There are so many lovely short woodland walks, it will be hard to pick.

Blair drummond has to be a must - it's a bit further, but get there for opening time, you will need the full day.

Landmark near Aviemore is the same sort of distance, and another great day out. Lots to do in Aviemore actually.

I love the v&a, but I wouldn't take kids.
