No idea where to put this so it's going here. How can I furnish this room?

Terrible biro diagram.

It's small, with three connecting doors and a fireplace with woodburner. Currently used as a dining room with a long table in the middle, but we use it less and less as a dining room. I'd like to have a small dining table AND a couple of armchairs so i can sit by the fire in the winter. We have a sitting room but its increasingly overrun with teenagers. The doors are the difficulty and also I'm crap at interior design. Ideas welcome!

I'd do a small table on the wall opposite the window - maybe one that can sit against the wall and be pulled out if necessary, or fold out to a bigger one?

And a couple of armchairs, one under the window and one opposite the fire with a little side table for a brew and a book or whatever, with a rug under that area to sort of designate that as one area of the room...

Enjoy my terrible paint diagram!

Could you put a small rectangular table up against the wall between the two doors. Then an armchair each side of the fire. Spare chairs for the table can be placed in the corners if need be. When you need the table you can move the arm chairs and pull out the table.

Idontwanttotalk · 20/06/2019 10:57

It would help if you out some dimensions on the drawing. You say it's small so we need to know, when the doors are open, how much space there is between them.

A PP has drawn in a table and armchairs but cannot possibly know if they will fit without measurements.

Idontwanttotalk · 20/06/2019 10:59

Does it get really hot by the log burner meaning you couldn't site chairs close to it?

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 20/06/2019 11:00

Do you need to use all three doors? I'd consider blocking the one by the window.

MuthaFunka61 · 20/06/2019 11:03

I'd also look at the table going between the doors or under the window, as both these would leave space for a walk through, with the chairs around the fire

BlankTimes · 20/06/2019 11:45

Agree with JohnLapsleyParlabane block the door nearest to the window, that will give you much better flexibility for furniture layout.

If you don't want to go to the expense of bricking it up, plastering it and redecorating, just lock it.

Fibbke · 20/06/2019 12:25

Cant block it, it leads to the front door hallway. Can't block any of the doors which is the problem!

Cant put a table on the wall between the two doors as the space between wall and door is about 30cm! (Sorry crap diagram)

Would hanging your doors from the other side of the frame help at the bottom?

Apolloanddaphne · 20/06/2019 12:30

You need a folding table in this sort of style to put under the window. It can be pulled out when required.

Would a Murphy bed style dining table suit - one that folded down from the wall? Then you could have two good armchairs in the middle of the room where the table was?

Fibbke · 20/06/2019 12:44

Apollo that looks good but we have nowhere to store the chairs!!

Hanging the doors differently might help, hadn't thought of that

You can get tables like @Apolloanddaphne has shown where the chairs fold and are stored inside.

What's the layout around this room?

I'm wondering whether its work with a wall taken out.
