To eat chocolate everyday?

DD is 4 months old. I also have DS 3. I'm still carrying a bit of baby weight but have started to lose it. DH commented that I eat chocolate everyday. I do. DH is an all or nothing kind of guy. He's recently gone on a healthy eating kick and won't eat any chocolate (sweets, crisis, biscuits etc) until he falls off the wagon when he could then eat willy wonka and his chocolate factory.

I've been losing weight steadily and eating reasonably healthily. Today I've had porridge, an apple, broccoli and pea crustless quiche (home made) with large salad, grilled Chipotle chicken with chickpea salad, mixed berries and Greek yogurt and chocolate. Thus is fairly typical - 2 portions of fruit, 5 veg and some lean protein.

I've had one strip of a large bar. AIBU.

Very unreasonable if you don't eat the rest of the bar!

awesmum · 20/06/2019 00:15

If you're loosing weight steadily and not denying yourself a treat now and again I would say you're doing brilliantly.

Well done keep doing what you're doing.

recklessruby · 20/06/2019 00:17

Not unreasonable at all. I eat chocolate every day and am not overweight. I don't think of it as a bad or guilt food though and just allow for the calories.
However i do have 2 false teeth now and a few fillings so maybe don't take my advice Wink

RedRedBluee · 20/06/2019 00:17

Yanbu, small occasional treats make you more likely to stick to a diet.
And chocolate is good for you.
Do you like dark chocolate? It’s got one of the highest antioxidant levels of any food. Maybe switch to dark chocolate instead.

escapade1234 · 20/06/2019 00:22

I eat a LOT of chocolate every day. I’m not even (very) fat.

HennyPennyHorror · 20/06/2019 00:33

Your diet sounds good. My DH is also a bit of a diet and fitness obsessive and I tell him to fuck off when he tries to tell me what to eat.

Well he doesn't anymore as I told him that he was NEVER to try to manage my diet.

To be fair he used to do it because he's passionate about it....very interested in nutrition.

I however am NOT.

So he's stopped now and just looks after himself!

EAIOU · 20/06/2019 00:35

Also agree yabu to only have a strip 🤣

Your diet sounds amazing. Everything is fine in moderation or so they say!

Aquamarine1029 · 20/06/2019 00:38

Your diet sounds good but what about your portion sizes? Too many calories, regardless of what you eat, will prevent weight loss.

HennyPennyHorror · 20/06/2019 00:46

Aqua but she is losing weight. She said so. So there's no need to ask about her portion sizes.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/06/2019 00:48

"Commented"? How did he say it? Like, doing online shopping, "oh you have chocolate every day so I'd better order some" or "oi tubby, hands off the lard, I can't believe you eat chocolate every day"?

Because one's fine and the other isn't.

escapade1234 · 20/06/2019 01:03

I just can’t compute why anyone would bother with a few squares of chocolate. If you can have a tiny bit and put he rest back in the cupboard then you’re not a chocolate fiend at all, just someone who likes the taste every so often. A true choco-head can’t do that. Why bother? It’s like me “treating” myself to two strawberries because I quite like them but could easily go weeks without eating or missing them.

Now, if you’d asked if ywbu to skip lunch because you’d had a family sized bar of Galaxy for breakfast, I’d understand the question.

Cruelstepmother · 20/06/2019 01:05

Well done for losing weight and still eating chocolate!

I must admit, back when I was a size 14-16 and read Slimming Magazine religiously every issue, I used to dream of seeing an article where one of their successful slimmers was saying, "I ate chocolate every day - and I still do!"

Sadly, I never saw an article like that, all the successful ones said, "I used to eat chocolate every day - now I eat an apple instead and enjoy it just as much." (bitches) so I realised I had to choose between chocolate-plus-flab or no-chocolate-but-slim.

Obviously I chose the chocolate because... anyway, now I am a size 20-22.

I think you're very wise to nip the weight gain in the bud straight away. Keep doing what you're doing and only change it if YOU want to.

greenlynx · 20/06/2019 01:31

I eat chocolate everyday. I’m size 12 and need to lose some weight around my middle but tbh I always had extra weight around the middle.
Your diet sounds very healthy. I wouldn’t worry unless your DH was disrespectful and nasty when said this. If he was I would worry about his attitude but even so I won’t give up chocolate if it’s in moderation.

managedmis · 20/06/2019 01:36

I don't know how you can only eat four squares per day. If I started I'd eat the whole thing! So I don't eat any chocolate at all.

newmomof1 · 20/06/2019 02:06

Are you BFing?
My DD is 1 month and I've lost SO much weight BFing that I feel I can justify the chocolate.

I would tell DH to mind his own!

QuickGetTheEggplants · 20/06/2019 02:11

I've eaten chocolate every day since my DS was born and I still lost almost 2 stone in 8 months. I'm not in the UK so I don't know the exact calories, but I can't imagine four squares of chocolate is more than about 200 calories. As long as you're burning more calories than you can eat and getting enough nutrients from the rest of your diet (which it sounds like you are) then eat away!

Graphista · 20/06/2019 03:46

Yanbu there are no bad foods only bad diets.

Your approach is far more sensible than dh's feast or famine which is not only unsustainable but will totally fuck his insulin control and metabolic rate and cholesterol processing.

So he is not in a position to comment in any way.

Queenofpi · 20/06/2019 04:27

My baby is 15 weeks. I not only eat chocolate every day (sometimes an entire bar, let alone a strip!), I also eat lots of biscuits and carby food. I tried replacing the biscuits and chocolate with fruit, all that happened was that I ate two apples, an orange, half a punnet of strawberries and then still ate 5 chocolate hobnobs.

Despite my horrendous diet, I've lost 7kg (thank god for breastfeeding). Husband has commented on my chocolate/biscuit intake, mainly in the vein of "oh, I wanted a hobnob but there's none left" but has (wisely) accepted that his sleep deprived breast feeding wife can eat whatever she likes. He's an ace husband.

StealthPolarBear · 20/06/2019 05:08

I've eaten chocolate every day since ds was born. He's now 12. Yes, years :)

AloneLonelyLoner · 20/06/2019 05:37

He shouldn't be policing what you eat. He sounds horrid for doing this. It's your body, as long as you are not Hannibal Lecter you can eat what you like.

Hmmmbop · 20/06/2019 06:43

aqua I'm losing weight so my portions are clearly fine.

Alone he isn't horrid, he was more commenting about how he can't just eat a bit like me, he'd have to have the whole (family size) bar so has to have none. He's also currently losing weight. He isn't a health freak.

I am breastfeeding, but when feeding my son I found losing weight so difficult, it comes off much slower when I'm feeding than when I'm not (I lost 9lbs in the 3 weeks after I stopped breastfeeding my son without trying, I'd taken almost 3 months to lose that whilst feeding). It's coming off faster this time but I think that's as DD doesn't feed as frequently.

So I guess my question is more, is it better to eat a small amount every day, or have the same quantity but weekly/ fortnightly?

sleepwhenidie · 20/06/2019 06:52

In answer to your question, neither is ‘better’ if it’s part of a balanced diet. I eat chocolate every day and my babies are 9,11 and 13. My weight is fine.
