To think DS 15 is worried about taking his top off at pool?

DS is 15 - we’re going on holiday this summer abroad - with beach/pool etc. DS hasn’t been swimming for maybe 2 or 3 years, whenever we have gone away/tried to go swimming as a family, he says that he ‘just doesn’t like it’. DH and I think he’s worried about taking his top off - he always wore a swimming top when he used to go swimming and is quite a private/reserved person. He is also not particularly into sports and isn’t the leanest... (he has a little belly on him but doesn’t look overweight) When we asked him this evening if he was planning to come swimming when on holiday this summer, DS got quite defensive and strongly answered ‘no’.

So - what can we do to help him with his body confidence/how should we approach this with him? DH and I don’t want DS to be unhappy/worried/missing out...

Would be interested to know if this is at all common among teenage boys? (I know I certainly don’t feel great about my own body...)

Rash guard top and leave him to it,he will either join in or not, don't go over board with the encouragement.

Might he be happier if you got him a rash vest? Not that unusual to wear them these days from a sun protection point of view?

Buy him a rash guard.

My ds was the same. He was very thin and had a spotty back. He also had stretch marks from a growth spurt. We got him.a couple of rash vests and he was fine
