Swollen Helix/Rook piercing...Help

Post for traffic only

DD has both done about 4/5 months ago. First 6 weeks great no issues and she cleaned them as instructed.

Suddenly both started to swell a little and some puss. I took her to the walk in and they told me to use TCP. She has used this consistently for last 5/6 weeks and now they are so swollen especially the outer ear that she is unable to get a grip on it to pull it out.

After googling it's says don't take out at all but it's not getting better just worse.

TIA

I second the poster who said have the piercer put a longer bar in.
I had my conch pierced and around 3 weeks in my ear got incredibly swollen.

One thing I was told to do which helped a lot was: don a pair of surgical gloves and gently squeeze the swollen area. When I did a lot of clear white gunk came out (sorry) and I could almost feel my ear deflating!
That and the bar change really sorted it out. And I was told to clean using only boiled water, no salt.
Hope she is ok! It is soooo painful.

Can she take ibuprofen? If so then try that. Also ice packs. Definitely stop the TCP. I'd also not use salt - just rinse in plain water. If you do want to use salt then make sure it's no more than half a tsp in a glass of water. Too strong a saline will increase the irritation.

Rooks can swell for no apparent reason but it shouldn't be this bad so far along. Does she have top quality implant quality titanium in there? Not all titanium is good quality.

If Ibuprofen and ice packs don't bring the swelling down quickly ( ie by the morning) then go back to the piercer for a longer bar.

The salt water seems to have helped loads. The swelling has come down.

Thanks everyone x

Helix is the top of the ear right?

I had this done - twice actually - and it just never healed. I ended up removing that one, I think it was because it got constantly agitated by my hair and by sleeping on it. My conch on the other hand healed beautifully.

Oh and I used an oil, i can’t remember exactly what it was called but it had lavender and I think tea tree in it, that dripped on a sore piercing was amazing. I bought it from the piercer.
