To choose a baby name that has been used for a family pet?

So we're looking at baby names at the moment and my DH won't let me choose a name that his family has used for pets. The issue is that his family and mine have used two names I really love on pets, Charles (Charlie) and Luna.

WIBU to use a name that have been names of dogs of my in laws or my db?

It's a little odd to name baby after a pet. There's so many names out there surely there's another one you like? We had a shortlist of 3 names for a boy or girl ready for when I had my baby and none of those pet names (and I have a pet called Lily which is a very popular human name!)

My late husband and I chose the names Arthur and Alice for future children.

We didn't manage to have children but now I have two dogs - Arthur and Alice.

Nit baby substitutes, no not at all 🤣

I’m named after my my Mum’s childhood cat! I don’t mind in the least and really wanted to name DS after mine and DH’s cat, but it would’ve been confusing as our cat is still with us Smile

I did for two of my kids. It was my Aunties cat and our very close family friends dog. I’ve never though of it as an odd thing. They were nice names for pets and nice names for my kids. My Auntie was delighted.

If you like the name use it. Some one will likely be called it also, be it a pet , human or both.
To me liking the name is good enough reason to use.
