To report to RSPCA

Visited a cattery today to look round as were going away. The lady who ran it was lovely but was elderly and clearly not coping with running the place. There were only a few cats there as she said she was running down her business, but the place was very dirty; congealed food on the floor, fur everywhere, generally grubby. The litter trays were clean, but one cat had dirt all up his back legs, she said he had upset tummy. Another cat she said had had diarrhoea. I looked up on the RSPCA website about reporting and there's a link to ' report cruelty' but I don't think the owner was being cruel to the cats she clearly enjoyed their company. And I don't know if what I saw was bad enough to report, although I wouldn't send my cat there, and having seen another place after that was spotless it does make it look bad....

YWNBU to report, though is the RSPCA the right place or is there a licensing authority that might be better? The woman's intentions may be good but her standards are unacceptable and that will hurt the cats however much she likes the cats. Hopefully, there will be advice given and her winding down will accelerate so that the current cats go back to their owners and no new cats are taken on.

You'd be better reporting it to the council as they grant the boarding licence.

It seems catteries need a license and there are minimum standards that apply. Council appears to be responsible for licensing and enforcement, so call the council of whatever area the cattery is in and ask about registering a concern.
