To take the pill only when on holiday

Hi.
I've been off the pill for nearly two years now. No probs on it but I'd had enough of hormones and wanted to get back in tune with myself.
I've got two holidays coming up, which are in hot places and will include some trekking etc. Basically, though, I fancy the idea of sone sexual freedom Grin and a bit more control over my periods.
I'm 40 but fit and have got a prescription online. I don't know why I'm hesitating really, but wondered if other people have done this. Reckon I'd just go on it for 4-6 months to cover the hols.
Thanks,
Ags.

Do you mean you're planning on some casual encounters while you're away, or are you holidaying with a partner? If the former, presumably you've considered the STD risk when not using anything but the pill?

veryboredtoday · 18/06/2019 07:48

Why not, sounds a good plan

justbeniceplease · 18/06/2019 07:49

Sexual freedom?

boobirdblue · 18/06/2019 07:52

Can't see a problem, bar the need for condoms to avoid STD.

Peachesandcream14 · 18/06/2019 07:56

Rather than messing with your contraception you could get a prescription for norithisterone from a pharmacist, that delays your period while you take the pills. So if your period is going to arrive at an inconvenient time you can stop it. You should obviously use condoms if you're planning on casual encounters.

BeanBag7 · 18/06/2019 07:58

Sounds reasonable. I would suggest starting the pills a good month or so before starting your holidays to ensure protection and also for your body to get used to the hormone levels (my first month I had the most horrendous heavy period!).

Good idea re condoms from PPs.

Can you make an appointment with the practice nurse? They can check blood pressure etc and advise you about any restrictions.

agapanthus1979 · 18/06/2019 08:07

Grin sexual freedom as in enjoying a bit more spontaneity with my long term partner, not casual encounters Grin

The pharmacy where I'm getting the prescription from will be checking blood pressure etc.

I get my pill online with superdrug.
Tesco pharmacy does blood pressure readings for free.
Every time I managed to get an appointment at my GPs they just tried to hard sell me a mirena and didn't listen to me at all. I had to be forceful.

justbeniceplease · 18/06/2019 08:14

Ahh yes definitely do it!!

agapanthus1979 · 18/06/2019 08:24

IhaveALooBrush - yes, me too. Sick of it to be honest.
Right, think I'll do it.
Thanks for your input.
