To ask if anyone gets thrush before their period each month or so?

Sorry, posting here for traffic.

I'm getting thrush every month in the run up to my period, it's usually a sign that my period isn't far away.

It's not always full blown thrush, might just be a tingling if you like and then nothing happens so don't always need/use cream etc.

Does anyone else get this?

I've googled why and I'm now terrified I have HIV!

Thanks!

I usually get a bit itchy, but I've never Googled it. It has been going on for as long as I can remember.

Myheartbelongsto · 17/06/2019 18:19

That's what I get, sometimes I don't need to use any creams at all, it just goes on it's own.

Yes, I used to get this. The GP said that some women are just sensitive to their hormonal changes, and was happy to prescribe me a monthly treatment.

dancemat · 17/06/2019 18:23

I get this too ! Ever since having my daughter last year

pinkoneblueone · 17/06/2019 19:04

I do too, why are you worried your HIV? You have me a bit nervous now Shock

GreenDragon75 · 17/06/2019 19:10

Me too. GP recommended having those probiotic drinks every day which seemed to help.

BouncingBanana · 17/06/2019 19:12

Yes, i used to get it in the run up to my period. Strangely though since i had the mirena coil fitted years ago, i don't get it any longer except for on the rare occasion Confused

Witchtower · 17/06/2019 19:42

I’m guaranteed to get it when I take antibiotics. Not that that answers your question 😃

keanubelieves · 17/06/2019 19:50

Yes every month and then what felt like all the way thru pregnancy Confused

sparkli · 17/06/2019 20:09

Yes, every month.

Coffeeisnecessary · 17/06/2019 20:10

Yep me too. It's the changes in the pH of your vulva.

Myheartbelongsto · 17/06/2019 20:32

Oh thanks for all the replies, feel a lot better.

@Pinkoneblueone don't worry, it's just my paranoia.

I did a google search and it came back with HIV saying compromised immune system and I think now I have oral thrush!

I'm with my boyfriend for the last 5 years, the last sexual contact I had before him was a one night thing that was protected but I'm so paranoid about it now. Especially as he contacted me after a few years out of the blue, missed call via Facebook. Messaged him back as wanted to know why he had contacted me and he said it was just an accident.

Sorry, going off on a tangent now.

If you are super paranoid about it go get checked out. I have been with my one and only sexual partner for 18 years we had all those checks done at the beginning as my partner had been with others before me

HIVpos · 17/06/2019 21:43

OP please rest your mind - thrush symptoms have nothing to do with HIV. If they did it would be way worse and you’d also be feeling absolutely knackered. Loads of things can impact your immune system - you can get thrush simply from being run down, or taking antibiotics, or because the ph of your fanjo changes, as already said.

Now that aside, in any new relationship the best thing to do is go for a check up, so if you never did, why don’t you both do it? - for reassurance and as the responsible thing to do as much as anything else.

PS someone once told me that slathering probiotic yoghurt on your fanjo and lying with your feet up in the air helps with thrush! Grin

Get some pro biotics OP

I was plagued with it and tried all sorts . They nailed it . Thanks to god

Myheartbelongsto · 17/06/2019 22:00

I last tested negative in May 2014 and then I had this sexual encounter which was protected, as far as I know as he supplied the condom.

I have convinced myself before that I have contracted HIV as the reason I had the May test was because I was sexually assaulted by a taxi driver after a night out. He came in my front door behind me as I walked in.

I'm not ignorant about HIV at all if you can believe that.

How I got to this from thrush I don't know.

if u go to a sexual health centre they'll be best placed to advise on recurrent thrush & will do tests for stds as a matter of course, might be good to put yr mind at rest and as pp said good to get checked in a new relationship as well x

SudowoodoVoodoo · 18/06/2019 09:42

I used to get thrush after a period until I started using washable pads and cups. I think disposable products dried me out too much and got more sweaty.

keanubelieves · 18/06/2019 09:47

Oh yes - stopping useing any liners and cutting down on sugar helped me too x

Yukka · 18/06/2019 09:52

In the monthly cycle, there are two estrogen surges, the first in the run up to ovulation, the second after ovulation in the run up to period. When estrogen levels are high it’s creates yeast and you get thrush. If you speak to gp they may run some tests to check hormone levels. But in the meantime wearing cotton Underwear and avoid tight clothing that creates warmth like tights or tight trousers/jeans.

Otherwise it sounds like you have a healthy reproductive cycle, rather than HIV. How old are you? It tends to lessen as you age out of your peak reproductive age.

LightsInOtherPeoplesHouses · 18/06/2019 10:02

Has this on the combined pill, stopped when I stopped taking it, was fine until my periods returned post pregnancy, settled down again but now it's back with the peri menopause.

I think my hormones hate me! Going to try the probiotic drinks though.
