Asking estate agent to remove pic of my home from neighbours listing

DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 17:40

Just that. My house is not joined to the neighbour, quite separate. There is an aerial shot where you can even see into my child’s bedroom. Another “arty type” shot which includes most of the front of my home as well as neighbour.

Relevant background is that I had my home removed from google Streetview a few years back for a very good reason. The whole of my property is blurred out from all angles when you try to view it on google.

The estate agent was co-operative, if a little bewildered as to why I would ask for the photos to be cropped to remove a house that they were not marketing. The cropped pics would not impact on how the neighbour’s house looks.

The neighbour has just hammered on my door asking why I’m interfering with the sale of their home. My answer was that I don’t want pics of my home visible online. They may or may not be aware of my historical reasons for this.

Your neighbour is causing an argument with you that will actually impact the sale of his house. He legally has to declare any issues with neighbours, and now he's hammered on your door - he should put that on the document. People pull out of sales over this type of thing, so he's made his bed with his ridiculous actions. If he comes back again (a pattern of harassment), remind him that he will have to complete a TA6 form. If he does so fraudulently, by not including this conflict in Section 2, he's knowingly mis-selling his home. (He wouldn't face legal action, but you don't have to tell him that bit!)

You have every right to not have your home, your place of safety, included in his photos. They shouldn't have been there in the first place. I'm sorry your neighbour is such an oxygen thief.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/06/2019 18:29

Cunting.

GladAllOver · 17/06/2019 18:31

Glad the agent will be signed up to an a redress scheme and they often have regs about appropriate pictures/provacy issues for neighbours If someone rang up and asked them to remove a picture for an issue as OP has outlined they would take them down immediately AND she would have cause for complaint if they did not

I'm very glad to hear that estate agents have regulations about this, and that they respected the OP's very reasonable request.
But the fact remains that the public view of your house is just that - public.

LastChanceFinalOffer · 17/06/2019 18:33

Of course YANBU. Your NDN is BVU and a bit strange.

John470322 · 17/06/2019 18:35

A few years ago I looked at Google street view and I saw myself in my garden. I liked seeing me doing what I often do, gardening. A neighbour demanded that his house was removed from street view and my photo went as well. Anyone can walk or drive past my house and see it so why should it not be on street view?

DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 18:39

This is perfect! I’ve just taken down the last of the Birthday bunting from the garden! This could be a new garden feature.

Not unreasonable at all. Your neighbour is ridiculous. Why should your house be in his house sale photos?

DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 18:42

It’s a couple. They are both very quiet and seem to be away working a lot. I rarely see them. I’ve not had an issue with them until now and it did surprise me that they both turned up quiet red-faced and randy. I’ll have to mention your advice if they come back later.

DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 18:43

Red-faced and RANTY!

DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 18:45

The street view pic showed part of the INSIDE of my home.

LillithsFamiliar · 17/06/2019 18:47

You asked. The estate agent complied. It would have been nice if you'd told your neighbour first but as a PP said, you don't need to maintain good relations with them since they're moving.

LuckyLou7 · 17/06/2019 18:49

Red-faced and randy - made me laugh.
You obviously have very good reasons for not wanting your house on public view and your neighbours are being twats. It's hardly going to affect the sale of their house.

cuppycakey · 17/06/2019 18:51

Oh I love that the neighbours turned up randy Grin

I would pop a note through saying you are sure they don't want to fall out with neighbours as "blah blah what sergei said" and be unable to sell their home over something so ridiculous.

londonrach · 17/06/2019 18:51

Yanbu... my house was used on air b&b rather than hers and secretly doing it whilst renting, had various people knocking on my door. Air b&b very good sorting but still hated the fact randoms thought our spare bedroom up for let.

CCquavers · 17/06/2019 18:52

Your house should not be on estate agents website. Regardless of your reasons for not wanting your daughters bedroom in a web page for everyone to see. Good riddance to your neighbour.

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/06/2019 18:53

Of course YANBU, whatever your reasons.

I now want sweaty bunting too.

DizzySue · 17/06/2019 18:54

I hate it when my neighbours are red faced and Randy Wink

TheFaerieQueene · 17/06/2019 18:55

Red faced and randy will become a new MN thing - well I bloody hope so.

OP, you are not unreasonable at all. I’m sorry you have had to deal with this.

Abergavennie · 17/06/2019 18:55

YANBU, but surely your home being blurred out on StreetView would make it more conspicuous?

If, for whatever reason, I was using the google streetview function, I would definitely notice a house that had been blurred out, but wouldn’t think twice about any of the others.

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/06/2019 18:56

Ffs sweary bunting. Not sweaty.

Sandybval · 17/06/2019 18:56

Even if nothing had happened previously YANBU, there's no reason for your house to have been on the images.

DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 18:56

Like I said before they are away working quite a bit so not an option to just pop round. I don’t have contact details for either of them. Also they may not have even had any control over the photos that were used on the website. Surely the estate agent would have uploaded them?

OP posts:
DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 18:59

It’s a massive opaque cloud over the house on street view. You wouldn’t be able to make out any details. Google did not quibble the request. I think it was done within hours of the report being made.

OP posts:
DaughterOfEvening · 17/06/2019 19:00

Red-faced and randy! Ughhh

OP posts:
StroppyWoman · 17/06/2019 19:00

YANBU - it doesn't matter what your reasons are. If you don't want YOUR property in THEIR marketing material, that's your right.

I hope the ranty people weren't too upsetting to you. Aggression sucks.
