..... with the addition of an "R"..... on social media, everywhere, today.

I'm not the spelling police but my word... 🤨

SweetPeaPods · 16/06/2019 20:49

I’ve seen the same today, it’s awful!

TantricTwist · 16/06/2019 20:50

I've only seen loads of Father

missmouse101 · 16/06/2019 20:52

I am also sick of seeing it with the apostrophe before the s. The concept is a day for Fathers everywhere, therefore is Fathers' Day.

Pipandmum · 16/06/2019 20:53

Never seen it spelt like that.

BigRedLondonBus · 16/06/2019 20:54

I’ve not seen it today but have seen it written like that before. Weird

BearRabbitPants · 16/06/2019 21:10

I appreciate certain accents may pronounce it that way but to misspell it that way is a little odd. Especially on a day where the word is plastered EVERYWHERE as a reminder HOW to spell it?! 😐

OP posts:
Glitterblue · 16/06/2019 21:15

Someone on my fb spells it that way and she also always writes carnt for can't.

VodselForDinner · 16/06/2019 21:17

I like to say it like Douglas Reynholm in The IT Crowd.

FATHERRRRRRR.

Idontwanttotalk · 16/06/2019 21:20

I totally agree with missmouse101. It is Fathers' Day!

LipstickTaserrr · 16/06/2019 21:20

Waiting1987 · 16/06/2019 21:36

ethelfleda · 16/06/2019 21:43

You can’t be serious? That is awful.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 16/06/2019 22:05

DD did on her card. Twice. GrinGrin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/06/2019 22:10

Father's Day - apostrophe before the s. Although I imagine people with two dads might use Fathers' Day (so Tom Daley's and Dustin Black's baby, for example, or Elton John's and David Furnish's children).

nobodyloveslava · 16/06/2019 23:01

Vodsel - Thanks for the reminder, I love that bit! 😊

FlibbertyGiblets · 16/06/2019 23:07

We used to chuckle over handmade cards from the children to Dabby but yanno, Farther is a step too fa.

(Hee hee)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/06/2019 23:08

Father's Day - apostrophe before the s

But it's for multiple fathers (every dad in the UK) so s' ?

shellysheridan · 16/06/2019 23:15

I think the apostrophe could work either way round. To fathers in general, or to one specifically. I don't think it's worth getting het up over.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/06/2019 23:16

I don't think it's worth getting het up over.

Dh was doing a Fathers' Day quiz at church this morning and strongarmed our 18 year old ds into showing it through the tv last night to make sure it all worked for putting it through the projector this morning. Whilst messing about with it I came up with another couple of questions, one being "Who is the father of Jack-Jack, Dash and Violet Parr?" (It's Robert Parr aka Mr Incredible.)

Ds typed up the question and he put 'farther'. I hung my head in shame. I do have to take into account ds1 has Aspergers and is a Science/Computing/Maths geek and hates all kind of languages, including the one he speaks, so he does have an excuse. He used to learn his spellings in primary school for the tests on Fridays, get 100% and forget them by the following Monday.) The three younger children are all able to spell father correctly, thankfully. (Stealth boast.)

NewtonPulsifer · 17/06/2019 00:35

I have seen this for the first year on several social media posts. I wondered if people have seen the joke cards about farting where it is written Farther and think that is the correct spelling?

NewtonPulsifer · 17/06/2019 00:37

Just remembered some Farthers were being wished a “loverly Fathers Day”.Confused Disclaimer not in an area of the country where the you’d hear an R in the accent
