Parking! Includes pic

Ok. So aibu or is neighbour weird??

4 houses. I'm in 1. Neighbour in 2 and I get along. Both of us park our cars outside our back gate by our own drop kerbs. Never an issue. Been this was for 12+ years.
Neighbour 4 has no car. Neighbour 3 has 2 cars but her garden is a driveway and she has a drop kerb and her access is never compromised.
In between 2+3 is a normal kerb enough for 2 cars parking. Unallocated.

On Friday I came home and a delivery van was parked by my gate. Fine I just pulled down in front of the kerbed area. Not blocking any drive ways and leaving lots of room.
I haven't moved my car since as there was no need to.
Today neighbour 3 has parked her car outside my gate! Her gate and driveway is free!!!!!!
Is she being funny? I'm not sure what to think?

So basically I'm parked in the green circle. Not on a drop kerb of causing any obstruction etc.
I think she's being funny because her husband usually parks his car there despite there being a huge car park in cul de sac.
For ref we are a 2 car family but 2nd car always in car park not by house.

Go and knock and ask her to move. If she makes an issue just explain politely and forcefully that where you have parked is the public road - anyone can park there and it does not excuse parking over your drive and not to do that again.

Totaldogsbody · 16/06/2019 16:41

I'd probably think she was waiting on a huge delivery of something but if the cars not moved today I think she's trying to make a point, but she's a CF. You get on with neighbour 2 but what about her? I don't understand this thing some people have about not using their driveways the parking around here is very tight the majority of people have driveways I don't, but I often have to find a spot a distance away from the house because neighbours have parked outside my house instead of in their own driveHmm

Bonkerz · 16/06/2019 16:41

That's the thing. I don't need to move my car. So I'm not bothered that she's there. Might be tomorrow when I have 2 babies to unload from the car! So I don't need to knock BUT she's weird and doesn't answer her door! Ever!!

Me and house 2 used to have driveways but about 8 years ago the council decided to request we fit fences rather than double gates hence taking away our drives. We still have drop kerbs though. (It was something to do with damage to the public footpaths with us accessing our gardens) it wasn't really an issue back then.
Neighbour 3 and 4 don't have a path outside their gates hence the driveways still accessible.

So she isn't blocking your drive as you don't have one now? I don't think she is being weird at all. Your dropped kerb is basically like any other stretch of road as you don't need it for access.

Totaldogsbody · 16/06/2019 16:50

I think you just answered your own question there. She's weird. I think SpanglyPop has it right she's over your drive. Keep knocking, until she answers, and ask her to move, she knows you have 2 babies. According to the highway code you should not park over a dropped kerb.

Totaldogsbody · 16/06/2019 16:51

Crossed message Appollos right

HomeMadeMadness · 16/06/2019 16:51

YANBU what an odd thing to do. I would just ask her to move it.

Totaldogsbody · 16/06/2019 16:54

Although technically it's still a dropped kerb and should be kept clear.

sittingonacornflake · 16/06/2019 16:54

Agree with Apollo. As you don't have a drive or anything to access you don't have any right over that dropped kerb surely?

Lemonmeringue33 · 16/06/2019 16:55

So you have a dropped kerb but it does not give access to your garden because there is a fence blocking that access now?

If so - apologies if I have misunderstood - I do not see why people cannot park there. The dropped kerb rule is only there to guarantee access to drive ways. If you don’t have a driveway it is irrelevant surely?

TeddiesAreEverywhere · 16/06/2019 16:57

Neighbour is a little weird, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t just move your car back after the van had gone, especially since you say the other her husband normally parks there. If there’s something parked temporarily outside my house, I always prefer to move my car back when I notice the space is free.

Frazzledandfedup · 16/06/2019 17:15

So effectively you parked in their usual spot, left your car there because you had no need to move it. But are irritated because they've then parked in your usual spot as their usual spot was taken. You should have just moved your car when the spot was free if you're that bothered about parking in front of your house.

TheBrockmans · 16/06/2019 17:21

My guess would be that if you move your car for half an hour they will dash out and repark. No need to confront them. They are probably twitching their curtains now.

Bonkerz · 16/06/2019 19:25

Totally get it.
I didn't move my car because I'd forgot to be honest and haven't left the house since Friday night! Only noticed her car today when I went to put recycling out!

xyzandabc · 16/06/2019 19:29

Maybe when she got home there was a delivery van in her usual soace, so she's just parked it in a different place. Just the same as you did??

Letthemysterybe · 16/06/2019 19:30

I reeeeaalllllyyyyyy don’t get your problem.

stucknoue · 16/06/2019 19:36

Perhaps someone was parked blocking her drive at the time?

NorthEndGal · 16/06/2019 19:40

Tbh, you are the odd one, getting so invested in where y'all stick your cars. You each have a spot, no one is blocked, so I don't really get why it's a thing?
