Father's Day card

I realise this is hardly crime of the century but it peed me off a little and I just think it's weird...

It's my DH's 1st father's day so naturally I got him a card from DS. FIL came over today and had bought a card for DH from DS as well. Why???

He also accidentally refers to himself to DS as dad instead of granddad quite often... makes me cringe!

Please tell me you think it's odd - DH now has 2 father's day cards from DS Confused

Yes that's odd! It's as if he thought you wouldn't bother.

EskewedBeef · 16/06/2019 15:43

Seems harmless enough. Perhaps he's just excited about his son's first Father's Day on the receiving end.

Accidentally calling himself Dad is just being human. He's had years of being Dad, but only recently become Grandad as well.

On the face of it, it seems like a kind, sweet thing to do. If my mum did this on mother's Day my DP would not think anything of it.

I can see why it’s bothered you, after all it’s one of the sweet novelty things you get to do as a new parent when DC are still young.

But, FIL was just trying to be kind. Maybe he’s trying to show his son how proud it makes him to watch him grow as a Father?
In the grand scheme of things it’s not worth getting upset about, but I can see why in the moment it may have ruffled a few feathers.

Oh god my IL do this for every occasion. Valentine's, MD, FD, Christmas, birthdays etc. They always do special cards from DS. It just makes them feel involved

Quintella · 16/06/2019 15:50

Nah I don't find it weird. Presumably FIL is just excited that his son is celebrating Fathers Day for the first time and thought this would be a sweet thing to do.

Banhaha · 16/06/2019 15:51

Seems like a well meant gesture, but I can see why it might be a little annoying. Try not to read too much into it - probably just his way of saying he thinks his son is doing a good job.
