What do you think the problem might be?

I assume you got a good price and have a standard warranty?

I can’t see a problem, but then to me a car has 4 wheels and an engine so my excitement over them is limited!

juls1888 · 15/06/2019 07:37

Yes. Someone else has already taken the worst hit on the depreciation. Enjoy 😁

CheshireDing · 15/06/2019 07:39

God it’s clearly too early for me today ! I thought the title meant you had bought a car for a 1 year old child Grin

DontPanic42 · 15/06/2019 07:39

I thought the same as @CheshireDing !!

midnightOK · 15/06/2019 07:40

I am worried it might have been sitting there for too long, it has never been actually driven. Will that affect the engine etc?

CheshireDing me too Grin I need more tea...

OP as juls1888 said. And to be fair most cars will have been sat around for some period of time. If you like the car and it's a good deal, be happy.

midnightOK · 15/06/2019 07:41

CheshireDing the title does read that way when I go back and read it againGrin

My parents always do this, last 3 cars were ex display so were 6 months old ish and had 500 - 1000 miles on the clock

aimingfor2019 · 15/06/2019 07:43

Yes, brought a pre reg Fiat 500 in 2011. It's previous owner was BSM driving school who had brought too many, had 20miles on the clock from the drive from BSM storage to the garage I brought it from.

Never had any problems with it, saved a good amount of money compared to buying a new one, and could take it away within a week rather than wait 6-8weeks for it.

What are you worried about?

NurseButtercup · 15/06/2019 07:44

I'm planning to buy one before the end of the month. I've driven my old car into the ground. I'm looking forward to having a newer car, that nobody else has driven plus manufacturers warranty. Every part of the car will be new it's a whole new world lol.

What are your concerns?

midnightOK · 15/06/2019 07:47

NurseButtercup and aimingfor2019, My main concern Is that it has not been driven for a year, will that affect some parts of the car?

aimingfor2019 · 15/06/2019 08:11

Mine was an 60 reg (early 2010) and I brought it end of 2011 so was nearer 1.5-2 years with just one 20mile drive on it.
Had no issues at all.
If anything I think no use is better than a car with the odd 5 miles to the shop and back a couple of times a week.

Lazypuppy · 15/06/2019 08:22

Surely you have taken it for a test drive?!

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/06/2019 08:22

I think the issues could be that the oil and other fluids might have deteriorated, but if it's a year old, the oil change might be due anyway, so I'd ask them to do the oil change pre delivery.

If it's a year old you've still got at least 2 years warranty, so plenty of time for any issues to show themselves.

If you got it at a good price, it sounds like it should be a good buy as the mileage will obviously be low fo the age unless you spend a few years putting a lot of miles on it.

HTruffle · 15/06/2019 08:39

From the title I thought you meant you were buying it for a one year old!

Jazzybeats · 15/06/2019 08:51

Assume you’ve taken it for a test drive and got a good price. In which case it will be fine. If you only got a slight discount from full price or haven’t taken it for a test drive.... then you may be right to be worries.

Witchend · 15/06/2019 08:56

CheshireDing Whereas I was wondering what a preregistered cat was.
Too early for me too. Grin

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 15/06/2019 09:02

If it's a year old it's probably been serviced, ask what was done at the service. Has it literally done 0 miles or has it been test driven so has a few miles on the clock?

midnightOK · 15/06/2019 09:09

We tested drive Another one But swap to a differnt color and didn't test drive the one We Are going to buy. The price Is an OK price, not hugely discounted. We need a car urgently, which made me put the deposit down too fast

OP posts:
midnightOK · 15/06/2019 09:30

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver it.has 12 miles on the clock. It was just serviced . We Are supposed to collect it next week

Lazybonita · 15/06/2019 09:36

My car (Land Rover Discovery) was preregistered to the garage, it had done about 100 miles, we saved thousands and so far we have never had a problem with it and we have had it for two years.

Inferiorbeing · 15/06/2019 09:38

Any decent garage should have put a engine conditioner on it from time to time. If not buy one and do it yourself if it becomes an issue!

justbeniceplease · 15/06/2019 09:41

Has it been sitting for a year? When was it actually registered? You could be buying a 68 plate car that was registered in February or an 18 plate that was registered in March?

I always buy ore reg but usually manage to get something that's not been sat for ages. This year I bought a 19 plate car in May that had been register in March.

Thing is though, say yours is an 18; the car beside it with a 68 or a 19 on it could have come in on the same batch anyway.

midnightOK · 15/06/2019 09:47

@justbeniceplease it was registered June last year, so literally one year now

ChequerBoard · 15/06/2019 09:52

Don't be daft. Even if you buy a new car, it will have been sat around someone for some time.

You are overthinking this massively. Enjoy your new car and the money you have saved on a new one.
