Just that. We've had so many varying prices wasn't sure which is the average?

19lottie82 · 14/06/2019 20:08

£140

HereForAdvice2019 · 14/06/2019 20:10

£350 tends to be your average amount for an evening around here... if you want them for ceremony and wedding breakfast around £509

LaPufalina · 14/06/2019 20:14

£400 for Bristol two years ago for the whole evening 7-12

DoraleeRhodes · 14/06/2019 20:24

We’re paying £270 for a dj for five hours. Wedding not for a couple of months though so I can’t comment on quality!

freshasthebrightbluesky · 14/06/2019 20:28

400 for the buffet, room, decorations and dj for the whole afternoon and evening. He was OK but since it was a beautiful day we spent most of the day outside and he was playing music to himself!

HereForAdvice2019 · 14/06/2019 21:05

Thank you. We've been quoted 600 for eve. 850 all day.

Think it was about £300 but that was nearly 10 years ago. I would expect around £400 now

wendz86 · 14/06/2019 21:09

£300 6 years ago.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 14/06/2019 21:12

£350 I think for 6.30pm - 11pm last month. Up north though if that makes a difference?!

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 14/06/2019 21:16

Being married to one they are £600 for night time here for a good one. Not just one that plays music but will meet with you and make sure you like what he'll offer. Your music choices any surprises you want help with for guests and games (Mr and Mrs is a popular one)

Anywhere up to £1500 for all day depending if you wanted master of ceremonies, mood lighting, photobooths and how long your day was. They also can marry you though as in Scotland celebrants can.

Rocketpants50 · 14/06/2019 21:16

We made our own playlist from favourite songs and those from guests. If you go for a dj, please give them a playlist otherwise you may end up with their choice or music rather than what you like. (Unless you dont care!).

19lottie82 · 15/06/2019 08:49

It’s a DJ’s job to play music to entertain people and keep them on the dance floor. Which does take a surprising amount of skill - at the end of the day, that’s what you’re paying for. You need to know the right time to play certain tracks (usually when people get more tiddly Grin). You can’t play for example, Paolo Nutini followed straight after by the Prodigy! If you’re going to “give them a playlist, you might as well not bother! (A decent DJ will have a word with you about your musical tastes before hand though)

Iggly · 15/06/2019 08:50

Nothing. We made our own playlist and plugged the iPod into the venue speakers. It went down a storm and we had a great night of dancing!

36degrees · 15/06/2019 08:53

I was quoted £3000 10 years ago and thought it was the going rate, so just did what Iggly did.

kshaw · 15/06/2019 08:55

I'm paying £230 for 6.30 to midnight in Leeds

CheesecakeAddict · 15/06/2019 08:56

We paid 950 but that included special lights to go around the building (was a white building and it lit up the building -looked spectacular). We did also have to provide them with food and drink so count that into the budget too

19lottie82 · 15/06/2019 08:59

Don’t scrimp on a DJ and play your own tunes, unless you really can’t afford it. as I posted above, DJing is a skill and can make a real difference to the night / party!

However do spend some time calling about to get a few more quotes. If another DJ asks you if you’ve had any other quotes say yes, but call their bluff and say a figure much lower. You will get someone for about half of what you’ve been quoted if you show about.

19lottie82 · 15/06/2019 09:00

PS my £140 was for the evening. I think it was 6pm - midnight. That was 4 years ago.

TheGoogleMum · 15/06/2019 09:01

Paid £850 for a band who would dj between sets! They were great

TheGoogleMum · 15/06/2019 09:03

That was just for evening. We made our own Spotify playlist for during meal and things

janebee4 · 15/06/2019 09:05

Ours is £400 from 7.30-midnight, in Somerset.

Honeyplop · 15/06/2019 09:11

£250 from 7.30 till 12.30. We wanted something a sit different form the usual 'wedding/pop disco' so had an indie/rock DJ, he was fab! He also does acoustic sets for an additional cost.

We had a live vocal group, but paid £350 separately to hire a technician, PA, lights, radio mikes etc. The group were the main evening entertainment and were great - they got us through the awkward bits where people were a bit sober/inhibited to get up and dance!

For the last couple of hours we used our own Spotify playlist which worked fine as by then the party was in full swing. If you go down this route it's worth having a few sub-playlists or waypoints you can skip to e.g. floor-fillers to get people dancing or quieter numbers when things are winding down. It would be impossible to have a fully predetermined playlist that would work well, if you ask me.

coral13 · 15/06/2019 11:05

We paid £300 2 years ago
