To think it is normal to not remember everything when told only once?

I am a mature student and doing a work placement. My colleagues seem me to remember everything if they mention it once.
I am takinv in new facts all the time but i cannot retain everything. For me repetition is key. I have good exam results so i can retain info but i need repetition.
People look at me as though im thick if i cannot remember things like complicated acronyms after mentioning only once. Aibu?

Everyone learns and retains information differently, you know what’s best for you and that’s all that matters. It would only be an issue if you found yourself struggling to remember a lot of things and it impacted your day to day life.

Take notes?

Everyone is different. Take notes if you’re struggling. I’ve had this work before and it’s extremely irritating to be asked the same questions over and over by a new employee because they don’t write anything down. I wouldn’t think you were thick, but I would be annoyed as there’s such a simple solution!

I carry out a lot of workplace training for a household name company. We’ve done a lot of research on this over the past 5 years and it breaks down something like:

60% is absorbed through the classroom
20% is peer to peer learning after the above
20% is self motivated learning out of the classroom or away from peers (so revision, repetition, mindfulness)

So don’t fret you don’t get it all in the learning environment because that’s only one part of the learning.

As others have said, just take notes as you go along. Constantly being asked the same question is really annoying and distracting to those training you. Moreso when there's such an easy solution. Just have a pocket notebook on your desk and write everything down. By writing it down, you're more likely to remember so may not have to refer back to it that often anyway.

Write it down when you hear one. People don't mind clarifying information but if it seems like you're not trying by taking notes it can get very annoying to keep repeating.

I write everything down as I don't remember things when told once.

I explain to people that u may have to ask them to go a little slower so I can take notes.

Noone ever minds as I rarely ask the same question twice (I have had lots of positive feedback on this, I'm not just assuming that lack of grumbling means lack of issue).

I'd be pissed off if I was telling you things 3 or 4 times because you didn't write stuff down.

However YA also NBU that you shouldn't have to remember everything havigg only been told once.

Sure it will take time to remember and assimilate....

But...
You need to ensure you're not continually asking the same question... The odd repetition here and there... Fine...
I was once asked the same simple question 3 times within 30 minutes....
Do this by shoving a pocket book in your um, pocketGrin...learn acronyms for example by revising them quickly when you're waiting for kettle to boil. It's amazing how quickly you'll learn just by revising.
