daughter turned 18 council tax

Daughter turned 18 in April - currently at college doing full time course leve 2 - currently im on single persons discount for council tax - do i need to do anything im still gettting child benefit and tax credits and shes continuing the same course in Sept on a level 2 or 3 ,
i havent told council tax people yet - should i inform them or will they automatically exempt her as shes still getting child benefit and tax credit ?
Not working and not claiming - her
Working part time and slef -employed me - tax credit low imcome

As long as she is a student it shouldn't effect it but perhaps check with your local council to be sure.

Whether your council is competent enough to apply the rules is another matter entirely. Have you called them?

A person is disregarded for Council Tax purposes if:

- they are under the age of 20; and.
- they have, after 30th April and before 1st November in any year, ceased to undertake a full-time course of education or a qualifying course of education.

Your daughter asks her college for a letter confirming she is in full time education. You email a copy of the letter to your council's council tax team. The discount is the same amount, 25%, but called the student disregard rather than single person discount.
