Friend asking me for strong painkillers

I don’t know them well and was chatting to them about a BA day cold I’d recently had.They asked me if I had any codeine? I said no and they said they’d have to go and see the doc again but I thought it was a bit strange.

Codeine is a cough suppressant because opioids are respiratory depressants (they act on the respiratory centre in the central nervous system, reducing the natural urge to breathe). Untreated, this leads to respiratory failure. This is a major cause of coma, hypoxic damage and death in opiate overdoses.

You can buy codiene and paracetamol over the counter so 🤷

Codiene linctus is also still sold in some chemists, and necking one bottle is the same hit as 10ml of IV morphine.

Maybe she meant the linctus?

You had someone you knew but not too well ask you for codeine...so you say ‘no’.

Since codeine linctus is 15mg/5ml, drinking a whole bottle would be equivalent to taking 10x30mg tablets.
