I'm really struggling to lose weight I'm 2 stone heavier than what I'd like to be, I eat awfully and don't make a point of exercising, how do you get the Will power to not buy the great big chocolate bar and eat the lot? I've been asked if I'm pregnant!! I hate the way I look 😩

Or does anyone want to start a weight loss thread with me?

This could be me posting, I have just started an 800 cal a day diet in an attempt to loose 2 stone. I'm even more worried about my weight now as my friends assure me menopause will add another stone.

OP, I hate dieting but TBH i've been on the diet cycle for nearly 30 yrs since my first trip to slimming world aged 18.

I started with C25K and i found it helped me with motivation and after that I worked on not eating crap! If I feel like eating for the sake of it I'll find some housework that needs done.

I've now completed C25K and finally starting to see a difference in my weight but I haven't actually weighed myself cause I didn't want to know how heavy I was but all my clothes are to big so somethings working.

I still eat chocolate and crisps and fizzy juice but I just workout harder and run faster and I've started to do at home work outs to try tone up the flabby bits 😂

Oh and drink loads of water it takes away the hunger a bit

I have lost 4 and a half stone in the last year but have been struggling lately and can't get back on track. I'm choosing to eat more chocolate again, eat the packet of biscuits, I want cake, I want sweets I've done so well but I'm ruining it. What is wrong with me. I walk, I try to jog, I've been to fitness classes but then I eat more.

Sparklesocks · 13/06/2019 21:32

I too have a weakness for crisps and choc!!! In the past something effective I’ve found is carrying around pound coins/change or keeping them in the house, every time I’ve felt the urge to pop out and buy a dairy milk I put the money I would’ve spent on it into a jar - I can see it adding up and when it’s full I buy something nice with it!! I found that the visual reminder of the cash building to really effective.

Most of the weight loss chat threads are in the topic - there are always a couple on the go, so people usually find one they like in there.

Joining one really helped me.

The main thing that did it for me was eating less (really eating less, and no kidding myself). I started exercising when I was close to target weigh and am probably fitter now than I ever have been before

I've been on a mission since January, excrrising every day. I've lost a stone but need to lose another. Nothing's happening. Today I eaten terribly for the first time. I feel awful as I don't want to get any fatter!

Sexnotgender · 13/06/2019 21:58

Mindful eating!

Paul McKenna’s I can make you thin book is fantastic.

Crabbitstick · 13/06/2019 22:01

Don’t completely restrict - eg have a couple squares of chocolate rather than no chocolate.
Massively up your water intake.
Buy a smaller dinner plate.
For meals ensure 50% veg, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carb.
Limit alcohol to 2 or 3 times a week. Opt for lower calorie drinks like gin, white wine.
Start walking or swimming. Get off bus early, walk when you would have taken car etc. You need to get sweaty at least three times a week.
You need lifestyle change rather than a diet for it to be suistainsble.

I'll join you. I have recently retired from a job in which I worked long hours and had a long commute. By the time I got home (never before 7.30 and often not until 8.30), I was too exhausted to do anything.

One of my priorities is to lose weight and get fit. I joined a gym and so far have lost about 10 pounds, which is encouraging, but there is still a long way to go (I really ought to lose another 5 stone, though that is a bit daunting so my interim target is to lose 2.5 more and then take stock.

The summer weather is helping, as I am eating much better. I'm not counting calories, but I have given up bread, which makes me feel bloated, and of course that means I have also cut down on butter. I don't eat crisps or sweets, and don't drink alcohol or fizzy drinks, which is helpful. However, I do like cream on my strawberries, and my big weakness is chocolate.

The big difference I have noticed so far is that I find walking up stairs, or uphill easier than I used to. I'm not keen on running at the moment. I think I need to lose more weight before I do that, because it puts my knees under too much pressure. I have been enjoying the rowing machine, find the cross trainer good, but exhausting, and swim and do an aqua aerobics class twice a week. I find don't feel as self conscious in the water as I would out of it (probably because the average age in the class is fairly high and it's not full of fit slim people, unlike lots of the other classes seem to be!

rosesandveg · 13/06/2019 22:41

I struggled for years going on and off diets and just getting heavier. Then I got pregnant, and got gestational diabetes. I had to really reduce carbs, and any I did eat I had to eat with fat and protein. I carried this on after giving birth (with the odd treat in there), and that combined with breastfeeding, couch 2 5k meant I lost 2.5st and back in normal weight bracket. I don't have to struggle all the time with food either, the protein and fat keeps me full and things like cream, cheese, nuts etc are fine so don't feel like I'm depriving myself. I don't have to count anything either. I was a total sugar addict before, this has totally changed my relationship with food. I would recommend trying that eating approach if you feel you're struggling all the time.

Ledkr · 14/06/2019 08:09

Bit of a cliche reply but my fitness pal has been an eye opener for me.
The other day I ate well but noticed that the calories stacked up with bread products and even a tiny bit of oil.
It's really made me think about what I eat and I can also adjust my meals to allow for treats later.
Yesterday I wanted to go for lunch so skipped breakfast and planned a light dinner.
I've never been small but in the last year have stacked on two stone simply by not watching how much crap I was eating.

chargedup77 · 16/06/2019 12:06

Thankyou for your replies, I've decided to this whole dieting / exercise a go and stop using stress as a reason to eat 2-3 chocolate bars 2 bags of crisps chocolate milk etc, I'm going to weigh my self this afternoon and will post on here and then do my best in the next 12 weeks, how much is a good goal to try and achieve? 2 stone? Will update as much as I can!! Feel free to post your weight and join me!! Xx
