Blood donation

I’m so fed up of being told to donate blood? It’s happened 3 times in the past week I’ve been shamed for not giving blood.

I have no good reason to not give it other than I don’t want to but given I have bodily autonamy AIBU to think it’s no ones damn business?

It’s amazing some people give so well done to those who do!

I'm working on my DCs to encourage them to donate. I know that DD is O+ as I sneaked as look at my file when the consultant was out the room, but I can only surmise that DS is also positive as I had to have the anti D injection after he was born. I'm ONeg.

you get to feel rather smug with yourself when you get a text telling you which hospital it's gone to!

Not everyone does. I feel quite uncomfortable with being told which hospital it's gone to. I realise I'm in the minority, but I preferred it when you didn't get that information. It's good that it's traceable from my veins to the recipients, but I don't need to know where it's gone.

Some harsh responses to the OP here. It is her choice whether she wants to give blood or not. We all have the freedom to make those choices whether you like it or not.

I have been a blood donor for 7 years and while I think it's a truly amazing thing to do, I would never go as far to make people feel guilty for choosing not to do it. Our blood, our choice.

And yes, I realise I have commented on a zombie thread. Come get me Hmm

I have donated once. The nurses were strangely rude and had a bizarre attitude, like I was a massive inconvenience for them for wanting to donate Hmm turned out that my blood type (ab+) is useless for donations so I am actually not given the opportunity to donate again, but even if I was my previous experience has certainly put me off!

Well OP after I had my second dc I needed a transfusion...if I had known that I would then be unable to donate because of that I would have donated before!! I’m actually really disappointed in myself that I had never done it...and now it’s too late Sad
