Is this joking or harassment

A colleague has a broken arm in a sling. Another colleague is calling her “Captain Hook”. Do I say something or not?

what does the broken-arm colleague think? If they are joking between us, it's none of your business.

It might be inappropriate if she is not amused, but hardly harassment.

WatcherOfTheNight · 13/06/2019 18:36

Unless there is a lot more to it ,it's a joke surely ?

MyOpinionIsValid · 13/06/2019 18:37

It's up to the broken-arm person to make a complaint

HipHopTheHippieToTheHipHipHop · 13/06/2019 18:37

It’s hard to know, the person is very quiet and I don’t know if she’s finding it funny or not.

AyBeeCee10 · 13/06/2019 18:37

Stay out of it. Surely the colleague has a mouth of their own?

Dontcarewhatimdoing · 13/06/2019 18:38

Surely the colleague with a broken arm will say something if she is bothered?

justeatasalad · 13/06/2019 18:39

What ? I must be missing something say something to whom and why ?

WatcherOfTheNight · 13/06/2019 18:40

Some people have an odd sense of humour, personally I wouldn't feel harassed in these circumstances. I'd just think they were a massive knob trying to be funny .

AyBeeCee10 · 13/06/2019 18:41

Given that you dont know what the colleague actually feels, it's a bit ridiculous of you to take offence on her behalf

WorraLiberty · 13/06/2019 18:44

It’s hard to know, the person is very quiet and I don’t know if she’s finding it funny or not.

Well if you must get involved, ask them?

mabelmylove · 13/06/2019 18:45

If you think the colleague seems upset but is too shy to speak up then yes you should say something on her behalf, otherwise just leave it alone

catinboots99 · 13/06/2019 18:47

Fucking. Hell. Really???

🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Sometimes I despair of this world.

creamcheeseandlox · 13/06/2019 18:50

Harassment...really? Hmm

bringbacksideburns · 13/06/2019 18:52

Eh?

Please tell me this isn't for real.

Itsallaswizz · 13/06/2019 18:52

No

Redglitter · 13/06/2019 18:53

Am I missing something?? How on earth would it be harassment

Vulpine · 13/06/2019 18:54

Whats the harrassment bit? That captain hook is a baddy? Hmm

Butchyrestingface · 13/06/2019 18:54

OP, do you consider the action to be

  • a micro aggression
  • triggering
  • literal violence
  • all of the above?
MrsTommyBanks · 13/06/2019 18:55

Say what?

MRex · 13/06/2019 18:56

It's not particularly funny, but it isn't necessarily offensive either. Ask your colleague if it's annoying her or not. Not remotely similar in content, but I've been in the horrible position of having someone bitching at me for having a laugh with my friend, who was enjoying it and also got very upset with the offended one. It led to an awful atmosphere for no good reason, with lasting impacts. It's not your place to police conversations between others unless a protected characteristic is being made fun of or unless the person actually wants your help.

Response= Does that make you the parrot then?

HTH

tanstaafl · 13/06/2019 18:59

Sounds fairly armless to me.

Phoningliz · 13/06/2019 18:59

I wouldn’t be offended by this but god it’d bore me.

BMW6 · 13/06/2019 18:59

Not remotely harassment.

Could be disablist if the "target" had only one hand (as did Captain Hook), but they have a broken arm, which will mend.......
