NC for this.

I seem to have gotten myself into somewhat of a 'rut' recently. Or maybe I've been in it a while and only recently realising but I just don't feel I do anything for 'fun' and simple existing instead of actually living.

I wonder how people found their passions in life (if you have one) and what that passion is?

How do I find mine? Is a passion just something that makes you happy? If so then mine is cheese and red wine Confused

So how did you find yours?

I'm in a similar boat.

My partner has his 'team' who he watches every week without fail with his family/friends, and plays the sport probably twice a week.

I'm surrounded by people who love to exercise/do sports which i've tried many of times to get into. It took me a few years to realise that half my anxiety was forcing myself to try to 'like' playing sports/exercise.

I'm jealous of friends who have a religious community - I tried to get into that but not into the whole spirital/religious thing. I did like the community aspect to it.

I do volunteer for a youth organisation which is good to 'do' something but not exactly something to look forward to.

I can play a few musical instruments (had many lessons) as a child but really me playing any of them doesn't last longer than 10 minutes at a time - I have no sense of rhythm therefore I hit my musical peak at primary school/failing A-level music.

In all honesty I have no concentration for arts/crafts/doing a course... but trying the odd thing (I ran half of park-run once!) makes me appreciate mumsnet with a cup of tea.

I'm thinking of taking up Piano again OP, I stopped around age 12 and I don't even think I'd got to grade 1 😂

Would love to know how you get on :)

My passion is my garden. Bought my first house age 30 and in 5 years have fallen completely in love with plants, gardening and all the wildlife that brings.

I have always been artistic and still sketch and paint regulary, but my garden is like my ever changing canvas now.

I also started learning guitar just over a year ago, it can be tough going at first, but now I can play a fair few simple songs it feels very rewarding. Good luck with your lesson, it'll be great!

So... a little later than planned, I had my first piano lesson last night.

By the end of it I managed to play 'When the Saints go Marching in' with my right hand and to my surprise it actually sounded like it should Grin It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed myself so much.

Very happy I bit that particular bullet and excited for my next lesson on Monday Smile

I would say volunteering in cat rescue is mine. It doesn't always make me happy (as I end up dealing with A LOT of idiots and hearing about a lot of horrible things) but it makes me feel I'm doing something really worthwhile. It has also really helped me connect with likeminded people more than any other interest/hobby - I think when you are doing something meaningful as a group it naturally brings you closer together.

I got into it partly by accident, partly as a natural next step from what I was already doing/interested in. I'm a vet's daughter, was always an animal lover. I had a rescue cat and had been doing a few things here and there to support a cat charity. Then I responded to a call to foster a stray mum cat and her kittens for a local rescue and about a year later was invited to join the management group at the charity.
