WW group closing down AIBU?

Putting this here for traffic too..

In March I Joined WW (weightwatchers) signed up to a three month deal as worked out cheaper. (DM also joined with me).
On my second weigh in the consultant announced she was leaving and the group would be closing. I was given a list of other groups and times. Because I work full time and the distance away the other evening groups I just wasn’t able to attend these. I have tried to attend a particular group twice but it just wasn’t practical due to its distance and time of meeting in the evening. ( have no one to watch dc while I would have been there on that night) I really need to go to a group and cannot do the “online” on my own aspect it.

So.. WW have let my mum cancel her membership (after their 14day cooling off period) but have refused to cancel mine, and are continuing to take money from my account. They have offered to send me a list of other groups.. even though I’ve said none are practical for people who work during the day. Their customer services is shocking, and just parrot the same 14 day rule and not acknowledging their group closed down.

AIBU to want to cancel this membership? Or are WW within their right to continue taking money.

I feel that they should have been open and honest that the group we joined was closing down 2 weeks later, I feel that they were deceitful and have not carried out their side of the contract.

Anyone else had issues with WW not cancelling membership?

Canceling the card does not negate the debt.

You have to deal with WW directly.

Thankyou all,
I’ve been speaking to Brett from WW customer services, who just keeps repeating its past 14 days and I can’t cancel.
Never mind that they closed the group down and I didn’t want to leave!
My dm must have got a nicer customer service person than Brett who understood her POV!

Thankyou all.
I have been emailing Brett from their customer services but all he says it’s after the 14 days so that’s that I can’t cancel yet. Never mind it was them that closed down and not me wanting to leave.
My dm must have got a more understanding customer services rep who let her cancel!

I will contact the ceo maybe?!

What was brett’s Response to you pointing out the service is no longer being provided ?

Peachsummer · 12/06/2019 21:44

They’ve breached the contract though. You don’t need to cancel the contract - it’s already been cancelled by them, when they ceased to provide the service you signed up for. The situation now is simply that they’ve been wrongly charging you for the contract that they breached several weeks ago. I wouldn’t be requesting to cancel at this point - my view would be that THEY cancelled by closing the group and I want a refund for the payments they’ve taken in error, backdated since the group closed.

What do the terms and conditions say? I would assume you sign up to WW itself rather than a particular group.

Toomuchgoingon · 12/06/2019 22:00

I just emailed customer services and said I wanted to cancel. Even if you have to pay for a set period, you will at leased stop it going on longer.

But you are right, if they cancelled on you, you would like to think that they would refund you.

He repeatedly says this..
Dear poppies

Thanks for getting in touch.

Unfortunately we are unable to cancel your account any earlier than the date that has been previously advised due to you being outside of the 14 day cooling off period.

We are more than happy to assist with locating a meeting that is local to you if you require us too.
Many Thanks,

Brett
WW Customer Services Team

I’ve told him the groups local to me are during the day when I’m at work. The evening one is the other side of the next town and I literally can’t get from work to home and back to other side of the town in time. It’s just not practical. Hence joining the group in my village.

Going through their finer details in the membership contract they state they will give 30days notice of a change in service. Which they didn’t. I’ll write to them and go to bank to cancel card.

When my group got cancelled I got a voucher. Have they at least given you some freebies?

Great! Tell him you require him to locate an evening group in your village.

Cancellation wouldn’t be enough for me. I’d want a refund for the weeks since the group was cancelled. Ask to speak to his manager.
