Most effective electric breast pump

Bepositive123 · 12/06/2019 12:35

I am mother of 9 weeks old and exclusively breast pumping. ATM I am using Medela single electric pump. It does the job but too much time consuming. Minimum 40 mins (both sides) and sometimes even more. As I pump around 6-7 times in a day, now looking for a double pump to save some time (even if it is saving just 2 hours in a day, you can imagine what it means for a new mom). DH insisted to buy double pump in first place but then I didn't imagine DS wouldn't latch and I would end up EBP.

Read reviews of Medela double but not convincing. Struggling to figure out which one to buy. Suggestions please??

I hired a hospital grade double one. It was bulky but effective.

I never pumped much, but a friend who did rated her Spectra one. Sorry I don't know models or anything.

No advice but I just wanted to say you're amazing!! Exclusively pumping is hard work and I have huge admiration to those who commit to it. Well done Flowers

Ardo double breast pump is great, I same brand in hospital for a few days, and got a calypso to come home with so I could keep expressing. There may even be a mumsnet code for money off somewhere? I think it was a highly rated one/ maybe even winner in their 'best breast pump 2018/2019.'

Ask in the right forum you'll probably get better advice

I have the ardo and love it. It’s the same as the one in hospital that I used.

Well done for exclusively pumping, it’s not easy.

Yep, here's the review. I got mine in a hurry as it meant I could come home with LO, and I was comfortable with the controls from using in in hospital, but am so glad I did. As others have said, well done, mine has learned to latch now, can't imagine still expressing so frequently. I've seen them for sale on ebay as well, and you can buy the pumpsets (the bit that goes on your boob) separately if you don't like the idea of using those second hand. Otherwise the pump itself is a closed system.

www.mumsnet.com/reviews/breast-pumps - says you can get discount using MUMSNET10 discount code.

I pumped exclusively (daughter was born with a Cleft Lip And Palate) using the Medela Swing for 8 months. They do a double version too.

I found it brilliant. My supply didn't drop at all.

A word of warning though.....I was like a woman possessed. I was determined to exclusively pump, as I felt like the opportunity to breast feed her had been taken away from me. It was exhausting and other areas of our lives suffered.

I added in a bit of formula and the pressure lifted immensely.

I admire anyone who pumps (it's truly double the work). But keep an eye on life balance too, as it can be draining.

I would get lots of extra breast Shields, tubing and collection containers, so a set can be ready to go immediately rather than constantly having to clean and resterilise the same set.

Good luck x

Thanks to all you wonderful ladies for sharing your experience and reviews. I would order Ardo and hopefully it makes my life bit easier.
