To wonder how many car accidents I have been in that I don't know about?

I have just received a call that I have been in a car accident.

This seems to happen every other week. I'm not sure if I have temporary amnesia, but if this is true then I don't know how our family car comes out unscathed? These are genuinely concerned individuals on the phone obviously, so they would not lie to me.

Has this happened to you? Have you been in a car accident that you don't know about?

Me too. I seem to have also taken out a lot of PPI in the past. So reckless!

Someone called my 13yo son asking this. He managed to keep them on the phone for nearly 45 minutes. He put on a funny accent, told them his seven children were in his micra, and talked them through each of their "life" stories.

He's never been called since Grin

I always say "where did you get my number from?" and they hang up immediately.

However I may just try and waste their time from now on, if I'm a bit bored. At least if they're on to me they won't be preying on anyone else. Tossers.

They seem to have tailed off this year, I think I've had one a month since September, which coincidently was when the crash I had in 2017 was settled when the other party finally took full responsibility after I instructed my insurance company to take it to court...

Oh my goodness brilliant answers all

Moodycoo · 13/06/2019 22:57

I get these calls asking for me by my married name - went back to my maiden name 9 years ago - so I say that person died. Or pull the head injury one and clearly terrible amnesia....

Doobigetta · 13/06/2019 23:01

I like telling them either that the accident was so bad I died, or asking them which accident because I’ve had so many I get mixed up. Or sometimes I ask them where they got my number. The answer is always “the department of traffic” or “the department of road accidents” which are apparently both parts of the government.

I keep them on the phone for ages. My favourite way to pass the time. Dsis did this & then they threatened to come & kill her. She was a bit very scared. Police got involved but can’t remember the outcome. So do be wary.

My DF’s mobile got one whilst we were literally planning his funeral. I had to interrupt the celebrant to answer it, it took me a while to get them to understand my Dad was no longer with us, there was a very short pause, and then they switched their attention to me. In the same conversation. I was obviously incandescent with rage and they got very offended when I insisted on speaking to their manager. The manager was of the ‘I’m sorry you feel that way’ school of patronising. I’m still a bit gobsmacked about it all these years later.

I take much joy in taking the piss as much as possible for these calls. I love the smelly dead body idea, but I fear my snorts of laughter might ruin the effect.

Starlight456 · 13/06/2019 23:11

Loving these response so.

I was in an accident a few months ago . I have had 5 calls in the last 2 days to claim compensation. I am so pissed off with them .

Magmatic80 · 13/06/2019 23:13

How do they know when you’re really in an accident though? Who tells them? Do the insurance company flog your details on?

ASatisfyingThump · 13/06/2019 23:44

They don't know, they're just trying it on. I get loads of these and I've never owned a car and don't have a driving license. Never been in a car accident in my life. They're changers hoping they'll get lucky. DH tells me not to swear at them because it's not their fault, but they know what kind of companies they're working for, they know exactly what they're doing, so I have no bloody sympathy for them.

(This may have touched a nerve. My list of blocked scam numbers is triple the size of my contact list. It's fucking ridiculous.)

ASatisfyingThump · 13/06/2019 23:45

*Chancers, not changers.
