To get a cleaner and ask how much you pay for yours?

I'm a single mum of one, working part time whilst family have her. I also like to do things with my baby and by the end of it I'm shattered. I know it needs to be done, but I detest housework and have zero motivation.

How much do you pay and how often do you have them?

Seriously thinking about getting one, I binned Sky so I have a bit of extra money each month now (£120).

£27/week (3 hrs) , plus qtrly agency fee. Works out about £10.50/hr. Cheshire area.

Westiegirl3 · 12/06/2019 12:42

We have a 2 hour clean fortnightly at £14ph in a 2 bed and 3 bathroom house in West Midlands

thecatsthecats · 12/06/2019 12:43

Midlands, £22 for two hours weekly. £1144 annually when you account for tips and bonuses sometimes but some weeks she doesn't come.

Drives me nuts that friends with Sky and expensive contract phones tease about this - it's a life changing advantage to me!

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 12/06/2019 12:48

I have a cleaner for 3 hours once a month and pay £10 an hour. She's ok but pretty unreliable. I'd like to have her for 2 hours every fortnight but I don't think she'd be reliable enough. I let her in and then go out for 3 hours.

cheesenpickles · 12/06/2019 12:50

I pay about £30 every two weeks and wouldn't be without them. It frees up so much time for the kids and I can do more work. Not to mention they do a MUCH better job than I do. I'd rather buy less food than give them up.

Kittekats · 12/06/2019 12:54

£12.50ph here for 2.5hrs per week.

BlackPrism · 12/06/2019 13:20

We're getting one, fortnightly for 2hrs it's £61 a month in London

DreamsOfDownUnder · 12/06/2019 18:04

More reasonable rates on here than I thought 😁

£12 ph, 2.5 hours every other week. She is a saviour - do it!

ZenNudist · 12/06/2019 18:15

£10ph in Manchester get 2- 2.5 hours. Previous cleaner always left early and did a bad job but at least it kept me organised and beds laundered. Now got a new one, same rate.

Some agencies here charge 12.50 but cleaning products are included. Its a rip off as cleaner gets minimum wage and agency does nothing.

Pepperwand · 12/06/2019 18:18

Totally depends where you live. We pay ours £16.50 an hour and that is a cheap rate for round here (South East). We get them for two hours every fortnight and I definitely think it's worth it so that I can just do the bare minimum to keep on top of things and the cleaners do the deep cleaning.

saraclara · 12/06/2019 18:25

£10 an hour for two hours a week. Small 4 bed house but she only does two of the bedrooms.

It's liberating. If you can afford it, do it. It's great to know that however untidy I might make the place, underneath it's clean. And the best bit - she changes my bedding, including the king sized duvet! (I live alone and hate wrangling that duvet cover!)

SimonJT · 12/06/2019 18:28

Mine charges £18 a hour, she does three hours a week, she cleans but she also does laundry. Worth every single penny.

Whereisthegin1978 · 12/06/2019 18:29

I think I’m over-paying - we have a cleaner who comes weekly - 2hours £35. We are Lancashire/Cumbria border.

donajimena · 12/06/2019 18:33

People paying 10ph you are underpaying your cleaner. The only cleaners I know that charge 10ph are working cash in hand. This is actually quite rare. Please pay your cleaner a decent amount. I charge between 13 - 16 per hour. This has to cover my wage 8.21 per hour, fuel, insurance, products, accountancy and any holidays. It really pisses me off that people pay their cleaners so little.

MarshaBradyo · 12/06/2019 18:35

£50 for 4 hours

saraclara · 12/06/2019 18:40

"People paying 10ph you are underpaying your cleaner."

I pay my cleaner what she charges. She is in control of her own wage.

LadyWho · 12/06/2019 18:41

I pay £10/hr and she does EVERYTHING...kitchen counters, mops, vacuums, dusts, cleans blinds, bannister, windows, mirrors, tv screen, walls, polishes furniture, etc etc etc.

I absolutely love having her and would definitely give up something to keep her if our finances changed. I love coming in after she's cleaned and everything looks brand new and it smells so clean.

smeerf · 12/06/2019 18:41

I use Housekeep and it's really great, they look after my key and it's really flexible. I have a regular 3 hours fortnightly (3 bed terrace) and have the odd extra clean if we have guests or I'm swamped. It's all managed online and I have the same cleaner, he's really lovely.

If you use a referral link you get 2 hours free to try it out (I get £10 credit too):

Megan2018 · 12/06/2019 18:42

@donajimena
I didn’t choose her hourly rate-she did! If she wants to ask for more that is up to her.

smeerf · 12/06/2019 18:44

Forgot to add: it's £13.50 per hour in London which is pretty normal I think.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 12/06/2019 18:49

Are there jobs that cleaners specifically will or won’t do? Eg I have cats and while I’d never expect a cleaner to clean a litter tray, they might need to move it / clean under or around it. Or would that be considered unreasonable?

pigglypug · 12/06/2019 18:49

We pay £42 for three hours every fortnight (London).

pigglypug · 12/06/2019 18:49

Oh and yes she has a key but I was at home for the first few sessions before giving her a key.

bollocksitshappenedagain · 12/06/2019 18:55

I have a 3 bed and have a cleaner for 3 hours every other week. I do barely anything in between!

It's enough to give the whole house a go over but not enough for any deep cleaning.

It's worth every penny.
