Made the decision as I keep forgetting/missing my Yasmin daily pill (thanks depression!) can you guys reassure me it'll be fine? I'm so scared it will hurt and I'll get an infection and bad side effects.

If you've had it done how was it for you? And how did you feel afterwards?

Thank you, I'm so scared!

@Bobbindobbin argh that's not good! I'm sorry that happened to you. I had that with the Depo injection a few years ago :( really suicidal.

@CannonCaboodle Thank you! I hope so! It will be such a relief when it's done not to have to remember to take a pill everyday!

@Coldhandscoldheart I guess that's to be expected, I hope I don't itch it in my sleep! 😅

Wasn't painful going in but hurt when DS ran his hand hard up my arm when feeding. I also kept catching the end on short sleeves.
Sex drive also became non-existent.
Asked for it out after six months and had a battle to get it done as they kept trying to persuade me to keep it.
Ended up on a self-administered version of Depo provera.

MrsMiggins37 · 11/06/2019 19:52

See how you go. Hopefully it’ll be great for you and if it’s not it’s easy enough to get out. It’s not like something like depo where you have to put up with the side effects til it wears off.

Oh they might make you take a pregnancy test as well. When I had it put in at the GP they didn’t but at the FPC they did

lonelysleep · 11/06/2019 19:52

@MrsMiggins37 oh noGrin you escape one thing and are onto another with menopause! Hope you feel better Smile

@Pinkmouse6 I had the same with the depo injection- bleeding everyday so I really hope that doesn't happen again. I'm so sorry it was a negative experience for you. Thanks

I had high hopes for it but I bled for weeks and weeks on it - 8 weeks straight at one point, sometimes (just!) three. The gp had to put me on the pill as well to regulate it which seemed to defeat the purpose so I got it taken out after a few weeks of doubling up. Hope it is better for you

lonelysleep · 11/06/2019 19:53

@3boysandabump that's brilliant!

It’s great I’m on my third. Last time it went In the medical student observing fainted but I was fine! Very little in the way periods in last 10 years Grin

lonelysleep · 11/06/2019 19:54

@MrsMiggins37 My nurse said they recommend keeping it in for at least 6 months but I would definitely have it out before then if needed.

I've had two, no side-effects and worked perfectly for me. I also got pregnant immediately after I had the second one removed a year early when we decided to TTC.

Vivadita · 11/06/2019 19:55

Obviously this is unlikely to happen but thought it mention it all the same. I know a woman who had the implant which then moved from where it was put and it’s now in her body floating around somewhere. She wants it out because she wants a baby now but they obviously can’t find it so the baby is going to have to wait. She’s in her late thirties and is really worried that she’ll now never have the family she wants because the hormones are still being emitted

lonelysleep · 11/06/2019 19:55

@gassylady oh no! I hope I don't end up like that poor medical student 😱😅

@GivenchyDahhling That's great! I love that you can get pregnant immediately afterwards too.

MrsMiggins37 · 11/06/2019 19:55

I think I had my third for about a year before I just couldn’t bear it any more. So weird that the first two were ok.

Ihatesandwiches · 11/06/2019 19:55

I was really miserable with my implant. Much prefer the coil. But every one is different! It's worth a try, though :-)

lonelysleep · 11/06/2019 19:56

@Vivadita oh my gosh that's scary! Hopefully she'll be able to conceive when it's 3 years run out? Can't be safe to have that moving around though!

Inferiorbeing · 11/06/2019 19:56

The pain itself was fine, my first one was fine but the second one made me a hormonal wreck (and then I got it removed and fell pregnant in a week..)

FrenchyQ · 11/06/2019 19:57

It didn't hurt going in.
But it was horrible for me....I bled constantly, i had to beg and plead to have it taken out, that took 18 months.

lonelysleep · 11/06/2019 19:57

@Ihatesandwiches I did think of the coil but it sounds so much scarier 😂

OP posts:
MrsMiggins37 · 11/06/2019 19:58

Vivadita yikes! Yes the hormones last longer than 3 years it’s just that that’s the recommended length of time they recommend for replacement just to be safe!
Newer ones I think show up on an x-ray so they can find them that way.

OP it’s worth a wee check every now and then to make sure you can still feel it in your arm.

PenCreed · 11/06/2019 19:58

I'm on my second. No hassle getting it in, bruised impressively and had to keep my arm bandaged for a couple of days but it wasn't a problem. It's great, my periods are super light (if a bit erratic) and I don't get migraines every month any more! I also like not having to think about it, it doesn't matter if I get out of schedule and forget to take something because I'm already covered.

Vivadita · 11/06/2019 19:58

Fingers crossed she will conceive but she’s worried that it will be too late by the time it runs out! Sad
Obviously that case is really unusual though thankfully! Just make sure to keep an eye on it though when you have it so you can see if it shifts

Meowington · 11/06/2019 21:09

The getting it in and out part was a doddle. Smarted a bit but OK (I’ve had three).

The worst part was it completely ruined me. Gained weight, constant mood swings, the worst mental health of my life. Not to mention it killed every fraction of my sex drive. Eventually I said enough is enough and DH got a vasectomy (we’re childfree) and I was back to normal within 3 months!

If I could go back in time I would never ever have had it done the first time let alone had three in.
