How much did you spend on birthday presents for a two year old?

If two year old isn't having a party (living abroad without family where birthdays aren't really a 'thing')?

DH has got a bit overexcited with the present buying and I'm not sure what is a normal amount to spend so wanted some ideas of what other people do!

(If relevant most presents, although fun, also have educational benefits or would he great for outside play and exercise, so not just wasteful stuff. If presents are useful and could have developmental benefits, is it more acceptable to spend a bigger amount?)

We buy one main present and try not to go mad with extra stuff. DS gets lots of lovely presents from family, so between all of us he has plenty! And we buy him small toys through the year.

At Christmas when DS was 1y9m we bought him a play kitchen and a few small stocking presents.

For DS's second birthday we bought him a scooter and helmet. And I think DH got him a couple of books.

In total we probably spent £80-£90 for Christmas and the same for his birthday. We are lucky in that we can afford it. I don't think it's necessary to spend that much and I hope that parents with smaller budgets don't feel that they're not doing enough.
