To think there isn’t going to be a general election?

I hear talk of ‘Corbyn by Christmas’ and also discussion about which tory candidate would be best to win a general election.

Have I missed something? With tory support at rock bottom they’re hardly going to call an election are they? Heaven knows I wish they would, but I just can’t see how it’s even vaguely possible??

Yes, true.

Ken Clarke’s already said there are a number of moderate Tory MPs who would vote against the government in a no confidence vote. He hates Boris with a passion.

HorridHenrysNits · 20/06/2019 19:10

The Tories don't have a majority even with DUP support so theoretically none of them need to turn, though in practice I'd expect some Labour Brexiters like Kate Hoey not to vote for a no con. Sylvia Hermon, the independent unionist, also hates Corbyn enough that she might well vote with the Tories.

I doubt anyone who voted Boris Johnson is actively planning to no con him. However it wouldn't shock me if he picked up a vote or two on the basis that he's evidently not ideologically committed to Brexit. For all the no deal stuff, if he sensed a sufficiently clear Revoke majority in the country as a whole, he'd change tack in a heartbeat.

I bet it was Ken Clarke who spoiled his ballot paper in the last round of voting.

Dapplegrey · 20/06/2019 19:48

is nasty to peope who think brexit should happen and refuse to listen)
This is true and it’s a shame as the Brexit threads are mostly echo chambers now.

I hope the fucking Russians invade and take control - At least they've got balls!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. Once the Soviet Union came to an end everyone thought the Cold War was over but then Putin came to power and remained in power and he’s power crazy so who knows.....

HorridHenrysNits · 20/06/2019 20:27

Yes, I always thought the West had won the Cold War. Given the events of the last 3 years, it seems maybe not.

It's laughable isn't it. These are the people who insist they are upholding democracy by not holding a second People's Vote. Perhaps their next step will be to insist they're upholding democracy by not holding a General Election either.
Actually it's not laughable at all.

Totally. The man is utterly morally bankrupt.

Alsohuman · 21/06/2019 11:20

The last thing this apology for a government wants is a GE, if they’re no confidenced they’ll get one whether they want it or not.

Dapplegrey · 21/06/2019 11:22

Actually it might be the Chinese who invade.
Does anyone remember during the Cold War and fears of nuclear bombs there was a slogan “Better Red than Dead”?
Does this still apply?
Which would be worse, being ruled by Russia or China?

Alsohuman · 21/06/2019 11:49

That’s like asking who’s worse: Boris or Hunt.
