Parole Board Idiots

So, murderers such as John Worboys and David McGreavey-who murdered 3 children- are to be released because despite public outrage, the parole board judges them to no longer be a danger.

As people released on parole-are still a danger-discovered when they do more harm, I have a helpful suggestion for the Parole Board.

One of them should sign an undertaking-become a guarantor- giving their word that this person is being released early because they are no longer a danger and if they do commit another offence, the guarantor is obliged to serve the same amount of prison time.

I hazard a guess that not so many violent criminals would be released on parole.

OP are you actually questioning @PanteneProV 'a comprehension skills?

They have given incredibly factual, articulate and measured responses to your ridiculous Daily Mail way of thinking

Anon4775312 I appreciate they get a lot of reports, tick an awful lot of boxes, and do the best they can. But the setup is flawed so their conclusions are flawed. At the end of it they can't tell you the chance the person they are releasing will re-offend!

They can advise that the person is now a 'reduced risk' vs how they previously were. But what good is that without proper context? Supposing at the point a killer is locked up they are 1000x more likely to commit murder than you or I are, and that reduces to a mere 20x more likely at the point they are paroled... is that good enough? It isn't good enough for me. The real problem with the parole system is that they are not trying to answer these questions in a precise way such that their conclusions can be statistically validated or demonstrated as flawed.

I don't have the entire machinery of the civil service and months of analysis time at my disposal, but sparing 2 minutes to google some figures and make some broad estimates, it would seem that released killers are indeed ~20 times more likely to kill in the future than the base population are.

So much .... I just can’t....

Oi vey

There are no guarantees with human behaviour, you know...

@MrsBethel- are you a bps chartered hcpc registered forensic psychologist? No? Didn’t think so. Bright 15 year olds indeed....my 17 years post graduate education and doctoral level statistical training has been wasted, if only an uninformed random on the internet had let me know a bright 15 year old could do my job for me! Wink

I agree with the PP who said there are no guarantees with human behavior. Studies over here show that murderers who are eventually released are far less likely to re-offend than armed robbers, rapists and burglars. If someone is going to murder, they are going to murder. Even the most heinous criminal had no prior offenses and a perfectly clean record at some point. Look at the situation we have here - even the death penalty doesn’t deter people from murder. Keeping people on death row or on LWOP (life without parole) is not only very expensive but also very dangerous to all involved. When you have no incentive to follow the rules or even behave like a human being, why bother?

Your sentences in GB seem very short compared to those in the US plus they get out sooner for really heinous crimes. That said we have our own problems w sentencing, overcrowding, disproportionate racial counts and the death penalty.

Yes dear Grin

The general public have no idea what undertakings go on inside a prison. You have no idea. You opinion is fueled with rage. That's it.
