AIBU to think -OP had some privacy concerns about the thread, so we've taken it down now.- is happening far too often?

If you post an email written by someone else the time to worry about privacy is before you post, not after you've been handed your arse.

OP posts:

It some seem to be happening a lot and it is very frustrating when the "privacy concerns" emerge after the thread hasn't gone the OP wanted.

That said, we've all made mistakes and revealing more than intended in the heat of the moment would be easy to do. This is chat forum, it's meant to be a bit of fun. My minor annoyance at having a thread I was interested disappear is far less important than someone being caused real life distress.

SnuggyBuggy · 12/06/2019 07:26

It's funny how it always seems to happen after the OP doesn't get the replies they want

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 12/06/2019 07:29

I agree with PC

It may well be happening too often for you, but if the OP has a right to have a thread taken down, I don't think that right can be taken away. People would then think twice before posting and the nature of the site would start to change. Basically mn gives the 'ownership' of the thread to the OP. Which is as it should be, surely?

Sometimes it takes a third party to point out they have given away too much personal information. They suggested the OP asks for it to be taken down. Why does it bother you so much?

Basketofkittens · 12/06/2019 08:10

Maybe because some people on here are really unpleasant?

Anyway, it’s just a chat forum. It’s not like the OP will listen to people ranting and raving at them. I know I don’t. Wink

fairweathercyclist · 12/06/2019 08:23

I think too many threads are taken down generally.

manicinsomniac · 12/06/2019 08:27

It's annoying but I find it more annoying when admin make the decision to take down something interesting or controversial.

This is social media - I think posters themselves should have the control over their own posts. I prefer forums where you can edit and delete your own words but the admin don't get involved and delete stuff unless it's essential.

Ohyesiam · 12/06/2019 08:30

I Think it’s really important that posters have control of their own posts.
It’s social media it’s not just here for your entertainment, people come to sort their problems out.
Sometimes (?often) people only see they’ve been foolish with hindsight.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 12/06/2019 08:32

oooooh was that the ILs and the undisclosed wedding contribution one, dammit, I was waiting to see the OP come back and explain.

IHeartArya · 12/06/2019 08:36

Whilst I agree that it’s usually when the OP doesn’t get the answer she wants, Ive often posted a real experience in answer to a thread, to think shit, someone could easily recognise that & then go through my other posts.

So I’ll ask for things to be deleted. I think we should retain the right.

Maybe sometimes it’s all the OP needs to reassess themselves. I wouldn’t want to cause anyone real life problems anyway.
