For avoidance of doubt a bread roll is a cob bread cake.

a pedestrian pathway between rounds is a channel footpath, path of corsy.

a passage between houses (esp those with a flying freedhold) is called an entry a ginnel.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 11/06/2019 12:24

Sorry, typo. path of or corsy.

EarClipper · 11/06/2019 12:25

I don't have any kind of supper. Does anyone here have 'kitchen suppers'?

managedmis · 11/06/2019 12:26

What a ridiculous question

Bobbindobbin · 11/06/2019 12:26

Why are they Called Dinner ladies and not Lunch Ladies ?

MorondelaFrontera · 11/06/2019 12:27

Tea is afternoon snack!

Lifecraft · 11/06/2019 12:34

Why are they Called Dinner ladies and not Lunch Ladies ?

Because they used to cook an evening meal (dinner) although they served it at lunchtime.

If tea is a meal, how do you ask someone if they want a cup of tea with it? "Do you want tea with your tea?"

And if a friend comes round early evening, and you want to offer them a cup of tea, how do you do that without them thinking they are being offered an evening meal?

Breakfast/lunch/dinner. Anything else is daft.

spiderlight · 11/06/2019 12:35

Second Breakfast. Followed by Elevenses.

Aragog · 11/06/2019 12:36

It's still be brunch I reckon.

The though when I used breakfast, dinner and tea when growing up rather than now and brunch didn't exist at all!!! We did have supper though but that was a very small snacking meal after tea and before bed.

Dahlietta · 11/06/2019 12:39

I grew up in a household where the evening meal was tea. A cup of tea was a 'cuppa' or a 'brew', not 'tea'.

I don’t have brunch because I’m from Yorkshire. DP refers to brunch when he’s thinking that he can con me out of a meal.

Sparklingbrook · 11/06/2019 12:48

Rottnest do they have dinner followed by supper? Confused

golddustwomen · 11/06/2019 12:53

It's breakfast, lunch and dinner in my house. My grandad thinks I've turned posh now I use the word lunch 😂 They have breakfast, tea around 4pm then supper 8ish.

CostanzaG · 11/06/2019 12:59

Tea is your evening meal and a cup of tea is a brew....or a cuppa or even just a cup of tea.

The word 'tea' on its own is a meal

EarClipper · 11/06/2019 13:03

I love when foreigners try and navigate their way through the complexities of the word tea. Even British people can't reach consensus on what it means Grin

HeadSpin5 · 11/06/2019 13:09

My lovely MIL confused muchly by inviting us round for ‘Sunday Lunch’ but, as DP explained, was actually referring to the evening meal!

HeadSpin5 · 11/06/2019 13:09

** confused ME muchly

SupermassiveBlackHo · 11/06/2019 13:13

Erm, you say cup of tea. Or cuppa. It's not hard.

Breakfast/lunch/dinner. Anything else is daft

In your opinion. Otherwise, you're saying other regions and cultures are daft, and that wouldn't be nice, would it?

HappilyHarridan · 11/06/2019 13:14

Brunch is th best meal, basically means a fry up or similar late morning negating the need for breakfast or lunch.

Disfordarkchocolate · 11/06/2019 13:16

I had never heard of brunch until I was in early '20s. I love the idea but it's not a meal I have very often, more likely to have a late breakfast or an early lunch.

lunicorn · 11/06/2019 13:16

It's a class distinction for dinner and tea, but brunch is a more modern invention so not part of the class rules. Therefore, it's brunch to everyone.

Sexnotgender · 11/06/2019 13:22

Did you never have dinner ladies OP.

Yes I did. But I also had a lunchbox...

NannyRed · 11/06/2019 13:30

Brunch is brunch...not quite breakfastas it’s too late. Too early for lunch, it’s BRUNCH. Calling lunch ‘dinner’ or dinner supper or calling supper Sweet-fanny-piss-flaps doesn’t change what brunch is.

RubberTreePlant · 11/06/2019 13:30

Elevenses.

And "those who call lunch 'dinner' " are known as the "working classes". Long may they prosper Grin
