We will be going as a family of 5 this summer (three DCs one almost 14, and two preteens). All are confident and capable swimmers, so preferably ones with good outdoor pools and maybe with a water slide or two.

We don't have a tent or caravan, so will be using the campsites own accommodation.

Would also appreciate views on ones to avoid like the plague, and any handy hints of how to make the holiday as good as possible. Not asking for much, then! Grin

Thanks very much if anyone replies.

Hi we’ve been to a few in different countries
Duinrell in Holland is really good fun on site amusement park & best water park we’ve been to. There wasn’t too much in walking distance & weather could be a bit hit & miss given it’s quite far north
In Lake Garda we’ve been to Bella Italia - huge lots to do & loads of good day trips around the lake - think it might have a Eurocamp kids club
We’ve also been to Serenella which is walking distance to Bardolino & Garda but much smaller - there is a pool @ park but may be a bit low key - Eurocamp accommodation was also pretty close together
Pra del Torre on the Adriatic was also massive with loads to do but for me too big (massive trek from pool to accommodation if you forget something) nothing in walking distance, really humid at nights with lots of mosquitoes & it was really dusty at the accommodation so not that nice to sit out on your deck. Personally I wouldn’t go back there.
We have also been to Les Mediterraneas Beach Garden bear Beziers - it was a decent size, indoor & outdoor pools with slides, decent play areas and on a lovely beach.
All the Italian sites had great pizza / ice cream options & french site had a lovely bakery for breakfast and also did pizza & takeaway chicken.
Worth looking at AlFresco holidays - sister company to Eurocamp and much cheaper - you also tend to get about 5% cash back on Quidco.
In terms of accommodation if you are going in height of summer the deck is probably key rather than internal space. Have a look at the Alfresco “lounge” accommodation options if you think it’s the deck you will spend most of your time on. My kids are 10/6 now & we’ve been to all these places when they have been a little younger.

we went to Cala Gogo in Spain last year

www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g1063739-d1183405-Reviews-Camping_Senia_Cala_Gogo-Calonge_Costa_Brava_Province_of_Girona_Catalonia.html

We booked through Lifestyle Holidays as it was a massive amount cheaper than euro camp. We all (me, dp, dss14 and ds2) really enjoyed it.

I would say hire a car (unless you're driving!) as its a bit in the middle of nowhere. For us that was perfect though, we did go into the next town across a couple of tines which was lively enough for us. It wasn't too touristy either.

I would go back - oh and the on site bakery was absolutely to die for.

Zaton Holiday Village in Croatia, 15mins from Zadar airport, amazing pools, right by the beach, kids club, mini disco, high street with shops, supermarket, restaurants & cafe, the most amazing sanitary blocks I’ve ever seen, numerous playgrounds etc you can go all inclusive for food too if you don’t fancy cooking.....

They also do apartments and mobile homes - but Eurocamp only do tents at this one.

Thanks everyone. It's so helpful to be able to read these posts. I'll be looking over the next few days and hopefully booking one of your recommendations.

Oh, fab post. I’d like to know about sites in Italy :)

Seaandsand83 · 11/06/2019 19:12

I cannot recommend Yelloh! Campsite in Les Mouettes, France highly enough. 5 pools with big slides, bike hire, close to loads of secret bays, super clean and fantastic range of accommodation

Junowhat · 11/06/2019 19:14

Does it have to be Eurocamp? We nearly always stay in Yelloh campsites and have done for years. They are always fabulous and the accommodation excellent too. Where are you thinking of going?

alidew · 11/06/2019 19:18

We've been to Chateau des Marais in the Loire valley a few times. We always go with Canvas Holidays but I think it's also a Eurocamp site. We prefer Canvas as their tents are bigger and better equipped. The sites are also shady. There is lots to do in the area: chateaux, including the one the Tintin books are based on (Cheverny), a huge one (Chambord) you can cycle to from the campsite, kayaking on the river, visits to wine caves if the weather's too hot. The campsite we go to has a fairly small pool complex but lots of kids of all ages, ice cream, pizzeria, restaurant, cycle hire and a good shop. If you prefer a busier campsite, there is another one down the road in Pierrefitte. All a 4 hours drive from Calais so not an unbearable journey with kids in the car.

Boysnme · 11/06/2019 19:24

Another one for Duinrell, we’ve had some excellent holidays there. Loads to do on site and the surrounding area, some easier to get to than others if you have a car but transport is good there too. They are also about to open a new outdoor pool and the indoor one is fantastic.

Burpsandrustles · 11/06/2019 19:25

Actual euro camp has really gone down hill.

Look for normal campsites and book directly with the campsite. Rather than thru Europe camp or other operators.

At the Very least always check Euro camp reviews for those site's.

parpsqueak · 11/06/2019 19:36

Have a look at Al Fresco too. We've just been to Bella Italia for the second time with them and the three bed Da Vinci are only a year old or something so were very clean and new.

Gardaland is only 10 minutes away and was the best theme park we've ever done for value and quality.

SlipperyLizard · 11/06/2019 19:36

We’ve been to Bella Italia twice, once with Eurocamp, once with SelectCamp. The site is great but the Eurocamp vans are old and tired - nothing like the brochure! Puts me off using Eurocamp again if I see pictures very different to the reality. The SelectCamp ones are much newer and nicer. Gustocamp had the best ones last time we went.

We’ve also been to Union Lido. The Eurocamp vans were the newer sort, but a pretty poor location. Best located were Bolero (although you’d struggle for this summer I expect) and the campsite’s own ones. They all looked to be a decent standard whichever operator.

parpsqueak · 11/06/2019 19:37

oh and if you're on FB there's a massive Eurocamp unoffical group where you can ask specific questions or get recommendations: Eurocamp Unofficial Supporters Group

NailsNeedDoing · 11/06/2019 19:37

The one just outside Rome is lovely, would be a good idea if you think your family might like to do some sightseeing alongside pool days.

Chartreuser · 11/06/2019 19:51

I agree re Yelloh. Our gave one is Lubeeon Parc in Provence but we did La Brasilia in Langedoc couple of years ago and much more for teens. Plus local transport good if want to go to other places.

We went to Park Albatross in Tuscany last year, the site is something else, again great for teens but I find it too much tbh. And we were with Al Fresco and the vans were awful. The reps did say that Al Fresco give their best vans to France and then when they get tatty they get sent to Italy. Whether true or not I don't know but the vans were bad.

MeredithGrey1 · 11/06/2019 19:52

St Avit Loisirs is nice. It’s a big campsite with a big pool and lots of other kids activities if they’re of interest (eurocamp kids clubs plus PGL activities). If it’s still how it was, they also have the teen kids club which will go offsite and do canoeing on the dordogne. Area around the campsite is nice as well, dordogne river, little towns, castles, plus the weather should be nice. The fact it’s a big campsite means there is also a restaurant, bakery, tennis courts, mini golf as well, affiliated to the site rather than eurocamp.
(I worked there for eurocamp for a summer a few years ago and it was a lovely place to be for a few months.)

Mammatron · 11/06/2019 20:32

We loved Park Albatross but I'd go through a different provider than EuroCamp, the "Human Travel" vans seemed the best on site

luckygreeneyes · 11/06/2019 20:35

We love altomincio at lake garda, through the human company

TescoValueUserName · 11/06/2019 20:46

I don't think eurocamp have much availability left for the summer for good sites, i was looking at changing ours but there was very little available. I'd call and check before getting your heart set on anywhere on particular!

TreacherousPissFlap · 11/06/2019 20:56

I agree with burp, we've been big Eurocamp fans but have been a little disillusioned recently. I even made a complaint about the site we stayed in last year (mentioned in this thread actually!) and even that was not dealt with with their usual customer service.

I liked the idea of English speaking couriers when DS was a toddler, hence always using Eurocamp. With older DC I would look at the Eurocamp website to choose the one you want, then book directly with the site.

fiorentina · 11/06/2019 21:06

Have you looked at Siblu? We’ve had positive experiences on their sites, choosing our own mobile home so selecting newer ones. Good pools etc.

catgirl1976 · 11/06/2019 21:08

Yellow village Camping LanSerignan Plage outside Beziers and Camping Spiaggio Doro at lake garda

MadameJosephine · 11/06/2019 21:13

Camping Fabulous just outside Rome or Vilanova Park which is near Barcelona. We stayed at both after being recommended on here and loved them both

StirFriedBadger · 11/06/2019 22:44

We've done quite a few Eurocamps (and other companies). Think about the size of the park some are huge with loads of facilities but can be quite spread out. Would you drive or fly? Most if you fly you need to hire a car so costs add up. Pick the best model you can afford ' the smaller/cheaper one's get incredibly cramped and can be a bit outdated. My kids are similar ages and prefer the smaller parks as they tend to find it easier to make friends.
