If you've had a successful root canal or dental implant what was it like? What age were you? Scared

I've just had the second part of my root canal today, have had maximum amount of prescription painkillers and it's still hurting. Not too bad but definitely there which is making me anxious in case I wake up in agony.

Trying to stay hopeful that it will settle in time though so would love to hear from anyone who had a root canal that did settle and work out fine?

Or also, if anyone has had a dental implant that worked well, how was that for you?

Also, what age were you if you've had these procedures - I feel a bit down that I need this root canal at only 34. If I'm lucky it will help me keep the tooth a few more years but realistically in time it'll need an implant which scares the hell out of me. Two members of my family have had an implant with great success but they were about 50 and I just feel my teeth are at a disadvantage having invasive work like a root canal in my thirties.

I had a dental implant aged 44, after losing a front tooth aged 8. It took a long time to complete but it’s life-changingly brilliant to have that tooth back.

I had a root canal at about 28 and it settled really quickly. No crown though, just essentially a new tooth centre built from white filling on top.

I've had 5 or 6 root canal treatments (thanks to inherited fragile teeth - I broke one eating a cheese toastie once!) and have never had a problem with any of them. I'm honestly not trying to worry you, but I've never felt any pain with any of them - if you're getting breakthrough pain with prescription strength painkillers I think it would be worth seeking advice.

Oh and my earliest root canal was in my mid 20s, and is still going strong nearly 20 years later so you could well avoid implants for a long time to come. Hope it settles for you quickly.

I had a root canal at 28 and then an implant at 30. Best thing I've ever done. Tbh having the tooth extraction post root canal was the worst part as it just crumbled. Had to have stitches, was agony. The implant and the healing process was a piece of cake.
