To buy ANOTHER take away

I have bought takeaway nearly every night this week, tonight included (there were two nights we ate out instead). I now want to get takeaway pudding after already getting takeaway dinner. I'm literally obsessing over what I'm ordering from where. I'm not even hungry. I also can't really afford this. Ok, I really probably can't afford this. It has to come to an end soon.

But I'm miserable, lonely, bored, on new antidepressants that make me want to eat my own arm off, and also I've given up and stayed given up smoking and don't drink alcohol. I also am stuck in with sick kids and its raining.

WIBU to order the pudding and start tomorrow? Or should I find some self restraint from somewhere?

(No judgment from me btw I’m just saying that in my experience when I start feeling guilt or shame or asking for ‘permission’ somehow then it usually means I’m going to feel shit after eating whatever it is)

@lisasimpsonssaxophone

Yeah I started wondering if I needed counselling a few seconds after posting this tbh. I do sound a bit unhinged.

You don't sound unhinged. Just like it's all getting on top of you.

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 10/06/2019 18:55

I think GloGirl has the right idea, do the food shop then (if you still want it after that) enjoy the pudding in the knowledge that you’ve taken steps to make sure it’s different tomorrow Smile

Bagadverts · 10/06/2019 19:01

Whatever you do about tonight I suggest you make an appointment to see your GP or psychiatrist. If your medication is making you eat it is not sustainable. You just end up feeling guilty about the finances or weight gain or both. I know it’s really tough if you otherwise feel it is working.

Chloe9 · 10/06/2019 19:06

@Bagadverts when I'm depressed/anxious I often don't eat properly so I think it's meant to have this effect. Just I should be eating lovely homemade stirfrys not Fried chicken and ice cream.

The first week I thought it was a real positive that I was eating more, but not I'm not so sure. It's only been a few weeks so not had a big effect on my budget or waistline, but it's escalated this week because of the kids being sick. I'm not good when I can't get out and about to the groups and everything.

OP, I was put on mirtazapine and had similar problems but, if it’s any reassurance, the major appetite thing does wear off. In fact I’ve been suffering lately from having no appetite at all! It really is only an issue in the early days. So with that being said, have the pudding! This feeling won’t last forever.

dreygrey · 10/06/2019 19:14

I was like that on Mirtazapine, it was hell to not eat the horse in the next field. I switched to a different one in the end.

SkintAsASkintThing · 10/06/2019 19:16

Order a food shop and order some daily treats.

You're being unfair really, that money could be spent on doing activities with your DC when they're up to it. Getting you out of the house will do a lot more to help your depression than ordering shit food ever will.

Chloe9 · 10/06/2019 19:18

I've been on it three times before. First time I kept the same weight came off it because my mood improved, second time I came off it because of weight gain but that was slowly over a long time not insatiable hunger like this, third time I actually lost weight, and now the takeaway madness. It works wonders with my mood though. Nothing else works so well for my insomnia, either.

There's always a compromise. It's crap.

Do your food shop and get it delivered asap. If you have a sweet tooth, get the maltesers hot chocolate to take the edge off. Stop ordering take outs. It would make you feel better. If anything you'll feel worse and your bank balance won't thank you for it. Hope you get sorted soon.

Beautiful3 · 10/06/2019 19:20

It won't make you feel better. That should have read!

WhichOutfit · 10/06/2019 19:23

Order a takeaway tonight if you have nothing else in.

BUT then spend some of tonight making a food shopping list, plan something you really want to eat (healthy curry? healthy stir fry? Basically a takeaway flavour if that's what you like but healthy!) and cook it tomorrow. You can get off the takeaway roundabout. It's expensive, it's unhealthy (mostly) and it's no substitute for healthy home cooking.

Chloe9 · 10/06/2019 19:24

Thanks everyone who's commented about the medication. Helps thinking that it's chemical not some moral failing of mine even if I do give in once kids are in bed (I haven't decided yet)

IDSNeighbour · 10/06/2019 19:24

I have terrible all or nothing thinking so I'd probably be thinking 'screw it, I've already ruined today, I'll do what I like.'

But, if you can't afford it, that's a bit different. I'd try and hold off if you can.

On a complete tangent - there are takeaway dessert places Shock I'm so glad I live in the middle of nowhere and can't even get a takeaway pizza, never mind anything more exotic. Takeaway dessert sounds delicious lethal!

Jemima232 · 10/06/2019 19:27

Heavens - I've been on mirtazapine and my appetite was enormous.

If you're struggling with depression, wait until they kick in before you make big decisions regarding the food shopping.

It's all very difficult. Flowers

Chloe9 · 10/06/2019 19:27

@IDSNeighbour

Yes basically every kind of baked good and ice cream. It's ridiculous.

OP posts:
TheTrollFairy · 10/06/2019 19:27

What pudding are you thinking of? I think that’ll be the decider on if you should get it!

Mummadeeze · 10/06/2019 19:28

I have had that insatiable craving that makes you obsess over sweet food before when I was going through a binging phase. It is really hard to ignore. Could you have a Diet Coke, then wash your teeth and go to bed really early to try and ward it off? It is a massive waste of money to order take away pudding if you have already had a takeaway dinner and can’t really afford it.

Chloe9 · 10/06/2019 19:31

It's not that I can't afford it tonight, it's that I can't afford it every night IYSWIM? Not forever anyway!

OP posts:
TatianaLarina · 10/06/2019 19:32

If you’re in London you can do Chop Chop. Sainsbury’s app that delivers within an hour.

Chloe9 · 10/06/2019 19:34

@TatianaLarina

Unfortunately not but I think everywhere should have that!
