To trust First Response Early Result that I am not pregnant?

The instructions say they detect 79% of pregnancies 6 days before your missed period, 96% 5 days before and 99+% 4 days before. I'm now 3 days before.

I'm certain of my dates from using OPKs and temperature charting. And yes, I use first morning urine to test.

It's getting annoying how people (healthcare professionals included) keep saying that you can't really be sure this early. Surely First Response couldn't go on publishing those statistics if they were totally inaccurate?

I accept I may be in that 'less than 1% group' but those are very low odds indeed.

Well, for starters, many people do ovulate late and be more days away from their "missed period" than they think. Implantation can also happen at any time between days 6 and 12, so there may not be any HCG in your body until 2 days before your period is due. Also remember that the day of your "missed period" is the day after your period is due; you don't know you've missed it or its late until the day after you're due. And I doubt anybody is doing much independent research to challenge or validate First Response's marketing claims; it's not really a medical priority. In general it's sensible not to come to firm conclusions either way before your period is even due.

Why is it important?

This is driving me mad. Most likely because I have PMT! And also because I'd like to have a glass of wine.

I didn't get a positive with a frer until the day my period was due!

Ha I had a mmc where I was 4 weeks late, FRER was picking up nothing and eventually I got fed up with it and had a private scan which showed embryo stopped developing at 4 weeks 5 days. So chances are good it’s right but there’s still a chance it’s not

Have a glass of wine. The embryo (if there even is one) wouldn't be sharing your blood supply at this stage anyway. You don't need to worry about drinking until after you've had a positive test.
