Agreed, but it's a struggle finding a gate to go across the top of the stairs like that. That skirting board makes it difficult to fit a gate any further up the stairs / onto the landing.

AnathemaPulsifer · 10/06/2019 14:48

Should be lower down on the skirting board!

Crustaceans · 10/06/2019 14:51

The gate is adjustable though. Or it looks to be.

So it could rest on the ground. You’d just adjust the screw bits at the side so that it was all secure.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 10/06/2019 14:52

It doesn't have to be like that, they just haven't installed it properly

Iltavilli · 10/06/2019 14:55

That sign is far more but disturbing than the gate

moonpiggle · 10/06/2019 14:56

Safety gate extenders..jesus.

Jumbojem · 10/06/2019 14:57

Yes it is. But presumably it's being sold as no longer needed. It may have got put back up to take the sale pic so not how they had it when needed?

SnowdropFox · 10/06/2019 14:57

Ours is similar to that. The top and bottom won't adjust to different widths (to accommodate skirting board and tapering bannister) so doesn't fit properly at any height. We're going to fix a bit of wood along the bottom to stop our LO escaping down the stairs. She's pretty big though so may not be able to fit through the gap by the end of the year.

GlamGiraffe · 10/06/2019 14:58

I have a similar thing it's fixed level with the ground. I use the screw things to fix it accross the skirting board. This is an example of people not using common sense.their child could slip and get strangled.🙄

SnowdropFox · 10/06/2019 14:58

I mean only fits properly at a slightly higher point than perfectly safe.

Babblepook · 10/06/2019 14:58

Massive strangulation hazard for a small child if their body slips through but their head doesn’t

skinnyduplotowers · 10/06/2019 14:59

They have installed it poorly, the stairgate itself is fine. We have the same issue because of how the skirting is - for tedious reasons we couldn't screw it in any lower but baby could put legs underneath. However, she's never really left unattended at the top of the stairs anyway so it's just a failsafe in case she runs off.

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 10/06/2019 15:00

That does look like a horrible accident waiting to happen. I don’t know if my chunky eldest would have managed it but the younger one who super skinny, super fast and super obsessed with stairs would definitely have at least got part of himself stuck.

Isatis · 10/06/2019 15:07

Nah, it's adjustable. They've just put it up wrong.

I'm more intrigued as to their motivation for leaving the wanky sign in the photo.

ChocChocButtons · 10/06/2019 15:15

They’ve put it too high, it should be lower down the wall.

DerelictWreck · 10/06/2019 15:22

sqirrelfriends · 10/06/2019 15:32

Urgh, that sign is almost as bad as those wall art quotes.

DesparateDino · 10/06/2019 15:35

I bet they have live laugh love on their living room wall.

But yes my child would have tried to squeeze under.

Knitclubchatter · 10/06/2019 15:47

Maybe they are using it as a pet barrier.

Kintan · 10/06/2019 15:49

It's obviously been installed wrongly, maybe they have an older child that would not fit under it.

Fallofrain · 10/06/2019 15:51

Ive got one that would horrify people but its pet barrier. Potentially their kids might be older?

singymummy · 10/06/2019 15:52

I bet they have live laugh love on their living room wall.

I can just imagine that, right above the sofa Grin

Breathlessness · 10/06/2019 15:55

The sign and the fitting of the gate both show a disturbing lack of judgement.

Breathlessness · 10/06/2019 15:56

‘I bet they have live laugh love on their living room wall’

I bet they have it in heavy, wooden block lettering, precariously balanced on a shelf.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/06/2019 15:56

That sign is far more but disturbing than the gate

I was coming on to say i'm more concerned about the twee quote

But noticably its op that calls it a baby gate tue seller is caling it a stair gate

I know 5 families that use stair gates as a pet control indeed at least one of them the youngest in the house is 33 so no need of a baby gate for many many years.

That said it of course depends on what sort of dog they have a terrier or such could just slide underneath but anything much bigger than a pug would be stopped
