Tax cuts, yay! Years of austerity, and a vote to leave Europe because people are sick of the establishment. And this is what we get. Of course I'm hoping that he is not going to win, though he's the favourite, but all the candidates want tax cuts for the better-off.

I know. I just despair. How could anyone allow him to be PM? He’s a charlatan, a liar and a self-serving cretin. I’ve just been googling property abroad as I’m so worried.

Overmaars · 10/06/2019 08:40

They are all bloody awful in my view. What a load of self serving, pompous, arrogant tossers. It's really scary that that's what's our political system inflicts on us. Can you imagine a choice between Boris/Gove/(C)Hunt and Corbyn.

Jesus wept.

And the women all seem to be Thatcher-lite wannabes.

Where are the leaders? The thoughtful people with nuance and effective critical thinking? With conviction and empathy for other people's lives.

Quellium · 10/06/2019 08:43

We are in so much trouble. Brexit has really exposed the lack of talent and skill at the top of the pile. It's quite terrifying. And no, I don't think Labour in their current firm would be any better. It's so worrying.

I was tipped over the edge Boris-wise to a hormonal rage yesterday when I heard that he refused to answer the phone to Trump when he was here last week as he thought it was a 'hoax'.

I mean, that's just insane.

Justanotherlurker · 10/06/2019 09:26

Well this is a mumsnet paradox. 50K a year isn't that much and they "want" to pay more tax, hate the tories, complained when Corbyn wanted to target ~80K a year for higher taxes..

I think its a joke personally, when we are paying 49B a year just to service our national debt it would be better at least to put the money towards bringing that down, thats before the increased spending we could do with it.

ContinuityError · 10/06/2019 09:50

So it seems like Boris wants to use the No Deal contingency money to give a tax break to middle / high earners (which would include MPs Hmm)

But Boris wants No Deal so that contingency money will be required.

So he’s going to quietly increase NI payments for those people as well to raise the money.

Who will benefit? Let me see, wealthy pensioners that currently pay tax but don’t pay NI and coincidentally make up a large proportion of the Tory membership.

Win win for Boris.

EscapeTheOrdinary · 10/06/2019 09:57

If he gets in I'm moving country. It should be left to the public to decide who should get us through this mess not self centred, wealthy and dillusional mps to pick who their best buddy is.

Cinammoncake · 10/06/2019 10:00

YANBU. Disgusting to be looking at tax cuts for higher earners given the levels of poverty and child poverty in this country at the moment.

Corbyn is not helping the situation. He should do the decent thing for the country and his party step aside. If we had someone half decent (and not anti semitic or a left wing extremist) as labour leader then the Tories would be toast anyway.

Rainbunny · 10/06/2019 10:38

I'm desperately hoping that the poll from a week ago holds true (showing the Lib Dems ahead of the Tories & Labour). If BoJo gets the job there will be a general election and no matter what I'll be voting Lib Dem because I honestly can't decide which would be worse - a Tory or Labour government.

Cinammoncake · 10/06/2019 10:48

Me to Rainbunny Having to choose between Corbyn and Bojo is my nightmare. I think the Libdems will overtake Labour as the main opposition, if they hang on to Corbyn any longer.

Babycham1979 · 10/06/2019 10:49

If/when that venal, self-serving hypocrite becomes PM, we will see a confidence vote, and a General Election come before 31 October.

Even if they did a deal with the Devil (Farage), all polls indicate a progressive/remain coalition will have the only possible majority in Parliament; this will be the permanent end of the Tory Party as we know it. I, for one, won't shed a tear.

Overmaars · 10/06/2019 10:50

I agree Cinammoncake. But he is also delusional and believes he will deliver a Labour victory. He thinks it's the early 1970s and he'll hang out with his Union leader buddies and the 'working classes' will vote for him. Not understanding that many of those traditional voters now prefer Farage.
