To think Texas Chain Saw Masseur is not that scary

I have watched it for the first time today after being put off in my youth by friends saying it’s the scariest thing ever.
It was actually laughable in parts

A serious response:
I do think that that (ad for the film?) clip of him (at twilight?) just standing in the middle of nowhere swinging the massive chain saw round and round in the air is one of the most chilling images. And i'm not easily chilled.

I think it's the atmosphere of the film which is horrid. Just depressing and macabre rather than jump scary.

I love it when posters fudge their title. Always makes me chuckle Grin

I've only seen it once and didn't find it as scary as I thought I would but the dinner table scene still bothers me.

Apparently they massage boobs in some countries, now this !

hammeringinmyhead · 09/06/2019 22:18

I agree it's bleak. You just know geographically they're totally alone apart from people they can't trust anyway.

bumblenbean · 09/06/2019 22:22

I agree laiste the bit where’s he’s swinging the chainsaw about in a demented fashion is really disturbing - think it’s right at the end. Also the bit where he suddenly slams open the metal door and charges out to attack someone.

Laiste · 09/06/2019 22:36

@bumblenbean I'm glad someone knows what i'm on about Grin

DH and i went to a frightnight halloween thing a couple of years ago and one of the first scenarios we had to go through was a mock up of the film. Really big bloke with a leather apron on and a massive chain saw with the engine running - scaring the shite out of us by chasing us through a hay bale maze!!

The best bit was that he stayed in character 'off set'. Spotted him marching to the loo block grunting and snarling. I remember queuing at the burger stand at one point and looking into the field to see him doing the swinging the chainsaw round his head thing. Very evocative of the 'real thing'. Eeek!

bumblenbean · 09/06/2019 22:40

Omg!! That would seriously shit me up!! Sounds like quite an experience though Grin

isabellerossignol · 09/06/2019 22:40

I've never seen a gory type film, or a horror film that I actually found scary. I've found some horrible, and certainly morally dubious, but I've never found one actually scary.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre would be one that I found eerie though, I think it was the isolation and the sounds of the country in amongst the gory stuff.

friedbeansandcheese · 09/06/2019 22:40

Lol! Great idea for a film! Does he massage boobs (as per other current thread)?

SarahTancredi · 09/06/2019 22:42
Grin

On a serious note no it's not scary and I'm yet to find a film that is.
