AIBU to dye my hair bright red?

Early 30's, 3 kids and I've been varying shades of blonde, coppery ginger and brown for years. I have the summer off for the rest of leave before starting back in a very corporate environment when I intend to go back to a 'natural' colour.

DH says go for it (it being a bright semi permanent pillarbox red that I know will be a bitch to maintain). Family and friends say I'm too old to pull it off.

So what do you think? Go bright red for a month or so before going back a red based brown? I've been all colours from pink to green to blue in my twenties but not in recent years. Am I too 'old'?

Do it! It's your head.
your family and friends (or random mumsnetters) don't have to like it.

You may be able to pull it off or end up looking like a water corpse... In which case you'll know to not do it again and have the whole summer to fix it! 👍👍

I miss my red hair but I'm currently pink with one side shaved down. I'm 37. DD's friends think my hair is cool.

I’m bright red and 45. You’re never too old! It’s brighter in sunlight :)

I'm 42 and I've got bubblegum pink hair. Took me this long to realise its my hair and I can do what I like with it and it's nobody else's business.

I was pillar box red until at least 40, only stopped because I couldn't be arsed to do it every few weekends.
Mine was black on top and red underneath. I used Stargazer dye.

Go for it!

Go for it. I'm 36, a teacher and am currently Directions Vermillion, Rubine and Rose Red. I was a lovely Cadbury purple about 4 years ago but this school wouldn't let me have it!

I had mine Manic Panic Napalm for a while - fabulous bright orange - and I'm a lot older than you.

Now it's brown with orange and bright red highlights. I love it and I get so many compliments

Go for it! I've got a short bubble gum blue bob, my Dad hates it my DH hates it my friends love it! I'm turning 50 this summer and don't care Smile

I was blonde for decades and then red for several years, now burgundy/purple, I'm 40 and loving it. I'm using permanent colour and it's as bright as it gets. Definitely go for it. It illuminates confidence and I get compliments about it all the time :)

Transition from blonde to red meant that I ditched some pale coloured clothes because they clashed with the bright hair colour in a bad way. No regrets though and no going back!

I work in a university, if that matters (I don't think it does! It's not anything radical really).

Its a pain in the arse upkeep wise fades so fast and took me an age to completely rid myself of the red to get it back to a nice colour.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/06/2019 14:52

I'm red ! It's harder to get a bright version with semipermanent if your hair is dark so mine was lightened first,
It's hard work as roots show quickly but I love it!
