Left over food - wwyd?

Had a party yesterday - for various reasons there’s a ton of leftovers! All M&S catering type stuff so no good for say a food bank as they don’t take perishables.

I literally have around 10 various salads and coleslaws, a massive cheesecake, huge trifle, around 50 mini deserts etc.

Plus things like a whole large salmon, half a beef side etc.

I know that sadly a lot is going to go in the bin but any ideas what to do with it all (habe been eating beef and coleslaw sandwiches all day(.

Ring round some friends and family and ask whether they would like anything?

HardAsSnails · 09/06/2019 17:37

A local hostel for the homeless/soup kitchen might take it.

Hoppinggreen · 09/06/2019 17:38

any neighbours?
I’ve had a party cancel due to snow and I took food round the cul de sac
Also I ordered pizzas last weekend and for some reason got 2free ( had too much even without the freebies). I took them next door

NoSquirrels · 09/06/2019 17:39

Have another party tonight? Grin

Can anything be frozen e.g. salmon, beef etc.?

Do you or anyone else in your house work? My workplace would be happy to dispose of 50 mini desserts and a cheesecake! (Trifle might be trickier!)

Aquamarine1029 · 09/06/2019 17:39

Freeze the cheesecake, it will freeze beautifully. Meal plan with the salmon and beef and freeze portions of what you make for later use.

Leeds2 · 09/06/2019 17:40

If you work, could you take in the cheesecakes and mini desserts to share there? Or to the staff room if you have DC at nursery/school?

Pearlfish · 09/06/2019 17:40

Can you freeze any of it?

user1493413286 · 09/06/2019 17:41

Could you take it into work?

gamerchick · 09/06/2019 17:42

I definitely would take them into work in your shoes and send some into husbands work as well.

Or neighbours as pp suggested. Or ask friends. Next time if there's left overs ask party guests if they want to take shit home.

Serin · 09/06/2019 17:44

As long as it's all in date and been stored in the fridge, I'd take it to a local hostel.

NoSquirrels · 09/06/2019 17:45

Also, you'll have quite a bit of shelf-life on the salads, assuming it is stuff like pasta salad, bean salad, cous-cous type stuff. So depending on how many of you in your household you can get a fair way through the week with using it for meals...

mydogisthebest · 09/06/2019 17:45

The cheesecake and the salmon can be frozen. Depending on what the desserts are they may be able to be frozen. Can you freeze slices of beef? Not sure as I don't eat meat.

I think I would probably keep enough salad, beef etc for a couple of day's lunches (provided you think it will keep) and offer the rest to neighbours.

I absolutely hate food waste although I know this is not intentional so would hate to have to throw it away

elizabethdraper · 09/06/2019 17:46

Contact your local homeless charity for their food run

Bloodymary · 09/06/2019 17:48

Are there any homeless/beggars near your town? If so; why not make up 'goodie' bags for them.
I don't know your childrens ages; but my 13 year old DD would love handing them out.

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 09/06/2019 17:48

A local hostel for the homeless/soup kitchen might take it.

A friend of mine had a lot of similar food leftover after a family funeral and took it down to our local homeless shelter who were very happy to accept it.

Merryoldgoat · 09/06/2019 17:49

This is odd but pop it on Freecycle - someone popped a cooked leg of lamb on our local one once...

Bloodymary · 09/06/2019 17:50

Or what Elizabeth draper said may be easier.

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 09/06/2019 17:53

gamerchick I have no idea what you meant to say, but 'take some into work in your shoes' made me giggle Grin

makingmammaries · 09/06/2019 17:58

@gamerchick
‘I definitely would take them into work in your shoes ’
I find a cool box more practical

There’s an app called olio which lets you offer food that would otherwise go to waste.

Furrydogmum · 09/06/2019 18:10

We had a party last Sunday, DH and I had coleslaw and potato salad for lunch til Weds! Can you freeze any of it?

msbevvy · 09/06/2019 18:15

Are there any Olio members in your area?

olioex.com/

This is just the sort of thing that Olio is for.

SkintAsASkintThing · 09/06/2019 18:16

Homeless hostel should take that. Ours often takes leftover catering.
