What will you be doing with a baby and toddler in a week of rain? It’s due to pour everyday here upto Sunday and I’m worried!!
Cannot use the car as it’s in the garage so no soft play option, help!

I saw on a relative's facebook page that she's put up her kids' bouncy castle in the conservatory!

Onemorecrisp · 10/06/2019 15:15

Thanks for the ideas! 4 and a half more days to go....
Yes we live in the middle of no where with no public transport :(

It’s literally hammering down with rain all day I don’t think it’s practical to go out walking, baby still breast fed.

There is no way you could go out walking or to the park here today. It is torrential and has been all day. No amount of wet weather gear would be good enough to not be utterly miserable.

babysharkah · 10/06/2019 15:19

Oops...

I remember sticking DTs in the bath in the middle of the day for an hour and extra bubbles just to kill time in the winter.

Also, play doh, get them to help you make some, takes ages and they enjoy it.

@babysharkah

Ah-hem...

Don't move to Lancashire.

It has rained non stop in London today but people still managed to go outside.

Oysterbabe · 10/06/2019 17:55

Going to work and sending them to nursery 😂 Good luck to you though.

Strugglingonagain · 10/06/2019 18:00

I put names of various activities (paydoh, reading a book, stickers etc) in a pot and every 30mins they can choose one to do. Seems to liven up even toys they usually play with anyway..

Also going to use so many ideas from here!

CharminglyGawky · 10/06/2019 18:11

I'm going to a farm park for a bit tomorrow I think. It's always quiet in the rain as it's a farm park, but the animals are in a barn as are 2 play areas. Admittedly there is a LOT of stuff there that is outdoors and we won't use in the rain but as we have a membership so don't pay per visit it's worth it for us! Also they have some amazing puddles there, best place for puddle jumping!

Feeding the ducks is good in the rain as nobody else goes and they are actually hungry!

Everywhere else round here seems to drain really well, we went out for a puddle hunt once in the rain and still only found about 2 tiny ones Confused

babysharkah · 10/06/2019 18:14

@BlueSkiesLies getting out because you have to is a bit different to going to the park for an hour!

Beechview · 10/06/2019 18:31

Find active games to play with the toddler as they usually still need to run off energy.
Cushions on the floor and avoid the crocodiles by jumping on them
Dance around the living room
Follow a kids exercise or dance routine on YouTube.
Be a monster and chase them around
Play catch or keep it up in the air with a balloon.

FurrySlipperBoots · 10/06/2019 19:41

Ooo, another one - in the school holidays hire a (responsible and mature!) teenager who doesn't mind dodgy weather, to take him out in it! You can sit back and bond with the baby while he gets to have undivided attention and fresh air and exercise to hopefully exhaust him for the rest of the afternoon. Ring your local childcare college now before they break up for summer and ask if anyone would be interested. I would have bitten your hand off for the opportunity to earn some pocket money, while gaining experience and getting a reference at the end of it, when I was 17/18 and studying childcare. £10 for 2 hours comes would work out around the same as a session at soft play.

myself2020 · 10/06/2019 19:42

waterproofs and off to the playground !

myself2020 · 10/06/2019 19:45

@ babysharkah off course it is! Just been out with my 2, both are dry. Wellies, waterproof dungarees and raincoats, off you go. Just buy functional gear rather than fashion stuff

Onemorecrisp · 10/06/2019 20:08

My playground would be a health and safety risk in this pouring rain.

I also used to live in London and its a lot different getting out there a few steps to the tube / bus than trekking about in the countryside with 2 children having meltdowns along the way!!
