To reheat bolognese a couple of times?

I'm just planning my meals for the week as work is busy, and I'm wondering if I make bolognese today (I always cook it slowly for about 3 hrs), then lasagna on Tuesday, whether I could reheat it again on Wednesday or Thursday?

Do you mean reheat the lasagne? I would, without a moment’s hesitation, so long as I’d cooled it and put it in the fridge promptly.

TigerJoy · 09/06/2019 09:52

Yes. Normally I'd make the bolognese sauce and the lasagna the same day then reheat once. Whereas I'm suggesting making then cooling the meat sauce, then another day making and eating lasagna, then cooling it to reheat a couple of days later.

Yes, I do it all the time. It tastes better if not eaten on the same day.

CardsforKittens · 09/06/2019 09:57

Reheating once is fine. Reheating twice is slightly riskier. I still do it though. I wouldn’t do it if I were feeding it to a baby, someone elderly, someone immunocompromised etc.

TheInvestigator · 09/06/2019 09:59

I've reheated twice and didn't die. But you're not meant too.

pigsDOfly · 09/06/2019 09:59

I wouldn't, but it seems I'm in the minority.

It probably won't do you any harm, but why risk it.

BertieBotts · 09/06/2019 10:01

I probably would yes. But it might be best to make the lasagne up into two containers? Maybe even freeze it made up but uncooked. Then you can cook half on each day.

Sunday to Thursday is pushing it a bit to start with let alone if it's been heated and cooled twice.

cuppycakey · 09/06/2019 10:02

Gosh no! I wouldn't. But I do have quite a sensitive tum.

bridgetreilly · 09/06/2019 10:02

Reheating twice is fine, but I wouldn't do it more than that.

Qsandmore · 09/06/2019 10:04

No because you are increasing the bacteria levels each time you heat. I hate the “hasn’t harmed me”, well no, not until you get severe poisoning it wouldn’t.

Plus mince is riskier than a full piece of meat for obvious reasons.

Lazypuppy · 09/06/2019 10:04

Make both today then portion up.

I make the spag bol, then portion of a bit. Rest is used to make the lasagne.

Then you only have to reheat once

TigerJoy · 09/06/2019 10:17

Thanks, you're right I could just make two portions! I've got long days at work this week and just want to set myself up for nice home-cooked meals that are also good for my diet so I don't make bad choices when I'm tired...

I reheat lasagne, cottage pie, etc., and haven't poisoned myself in 45 years of cooking but I am very careful and mindful of the potential. The person who lives with me is extremely fussy so won't eat food reheated more than once - well, actually, hardly ever eat food reheated just once.

It gets on my nerves (major understatement) since I am interrogated when I propose having a reheated meal. So prepare something else instead (or nothing at all.)

CocoDeMoll · 09/06/2019 10:19

I do but dh (chef) wouldn’t. You’re not meant to but 🤷‍♀️

twitterbird · 09/06/2019 10:21

I reheat most things, including (brace yourself) RICE - same as my dad and never an issue in 45 years.

Lazypuppy · 09/06/2019 12:14

@twitterbird i always reheat rice, how are you supposed to have leftover chilli with no rice at work 🤷‍♀️

CaptainJaneway62 · 09/06/2019 12:27

Split it into separate portions and reheat once.
I usually make a big batch of bolognese then split into small portions and freeze in bags when cool.
I find I am not tempted to eat larger portions doing it that way.

dottiedodah · 09/06/2019 12:58

I think it is risky to reheat twice TBH. I seem to remember the bacteria may resurface?.Once thoroughly reheated till piping hot in microwave is fine ,Check centre .Also leave to cool down properly then put in fridge .I would not eat cooked food kept in fridge for more than 3 days max though.
